Sori-Marin Name LB Coach

Why not right? The only thing you worry about is can a guy only a few years older command respect when he needs to.

I actually really love this move. MSM always knew the defense as well as anybody in the room. He didn’t have the physical tools or speed to play at the next level but he had the mind and intelligence of an NFL linebacker no doubt
And the toughness and the enthusiasm to not only do his job but rally others. Definitely, enjoyed his efforts.

I don't think the age thing matters that much. Pat Fitzgerald was just a couple years older when he manned a similar position for his alma mater. Only difference is Fitzgerald worked at three other schools prior to returning to Northwestern to coach DBs and then LBs shortly after (GA one year at Maryland, GA one year at Colorado--with his college coach Gary Barnett--and one year as LB/S at Idaho). I guess it's a toss-up to have someone with consistency within the system or having seen how other coaches develop their systems. All in all, I think it will work out.

Anyone checked in with GopherChase to see how he is doing with MSM joining the staff? Tanner Morgan and MSM were public enemies #1 and #2 for him during their time here as players. He can't be happy to hear that MSM is going to be around for a while.

I’m not surprised. 55 has held a more prominent spot than I’d have ever imagined within Gopher football world for years. He did, however, get to a level of an average B10G LBer by his 5th year. Before that, he spent a lot of time chasing opposing players into the end zone and holding up his fist to signify 4th down when someone else made the tackle. I’m a huge fan of giving young folks whether it’s in the business world or as coaches early opportunities if they’re talented — so I hope he fits that bill and recruits and coaches well.

Sori-Marin was a really good LB here. He was a good backup on the great 2019 team.

2020 - leading tackler - weird covid year
2021 - second leading tackler - rush defense ranked 8th in the country, 6th overall in total defense
2022 - leading tackler - rush defense ranked 16th in the country, 4th overall in total defense.

Saying he spent a lot of time chasing opposing players into the endzone is not only stupid, it's completely false.
