So, we going to NIT?

Yes

Are we or not? Discuss.

Both websites with NIT bracket projection, Nitology and Bracketwebs blog, have us in as a 6 or 5 seed respectfully. Appears 9 teams have an auto bid in the NIT and they have been accounted for. We are in contention for a 4 seed with St. Joe's and Akron, to give you a perspective.

As others have stated I am excited to see the newcomers deveope. The last 2 games have shown Dre as the future of this team, lets see what he and the Gophs can get done in a tournament that means little to nothing. Just having another game (or 5?) to watch is great.

No. Since he is their leading scorer I don't want to be reminded of what we lost.

I think it would be fun. I've got to believe the guys who were on the team last year would have a little extra motivation to beat the guy that bailed on the team.

Do they announce the NIT bracket right after the NCAA tourney?

I believe they announce it at the back end of the ncaa picks, but I bet they won't spend more than 15 minutes on it or so. The selection show is on ESPNU at 8 central time. After that, I assume there will be a little coverage during the ncaa selection show.

Oregon / Minnesota would be incredible. Don't know much about the NIT, but I'm thinking they may try to make teams geographically close play each other in the first round where possible..

The big question is... if there is a home game, what will the U charge? I think $80 per ticket is warranted.

That would be an awesome game. If Cal doesn't
Make the NCAA, that'd be a fun one too.

I think our win over NW and the fact that Illinois won't be playing in the NIT puts us in for sure. Will we see Iowa make the field as well? I really hope so. They were a nice surprise in conference play.

I would love to see the gophers play Oregon and or Cal. I think the Gophers will do well in the NIT.

NIT selection show on ESPNU at 8pm ET

Edit: already posted, nm

Is this sarcasm I hope?

Just a couple of minutes now. Get ready.

Northwestern and Iowa are both in. Not looking good for the Gophs ..

Nevermind! We're in as a 6 seed against La Salle, Wednesday night

Not as sweet as an NCAA appearance, but any extra games we can get for the young guys, the better.

there's no reason we can't run the table. what better way to learn how to finish games than in tournament play? this could be a good finish in to next year.

Looks like Illinois is not in the NIT. Did the firing of Weber impact the selection?

We would have made the field of 96! I can't wait until they expand it in a couple years! Anyway, glad to have more games. Let's win it. 1998 was fun. The heyday of Kevin Clark.

Supposedly the players initially voted not to play in it after Weber was fired, then changed their mind. But that could have impacted things.
