For any of the players on the University of Minnesota football team this week, the message is clear: beat Wisconsin, and break up a string of six straight losses to the Badgers that dates back to 2004. However, that message rings even clearer to the seniors associated with the football team, who have yet to beat the Badgers during their time at the U of M, and have yet to be able to cross the field to pick up Paul Bunyan’s Axe. This is their final chance, and they want to make the most of it. Add to that the fact that the 119th edition of Minnesota-Wisconsin will also be the first ever Big Ten Conference football game at TCF Bank Stadium, and you have the makings of one of the truly special games in Minnesota – Wisconsin rivalry history.

Nick Walsh was able to catch up with one of those Gopher seniors, as he was able to talk with senior defensive lineman Eric Small about Saturday’s game, what the game and the rivalry means to him, and how special Saturday’s environment will be.
