Skunk fans are always the worst

I've been to Camp Randall three times and have been absolutely harassed with behavior like mentioned in the OP. I've told my stories many times and have been called bs by many a Badger fan, yet all true. Just classless. On the other hand I've been to Lambeau in full Vikes gear 6 times and have had nothing but great experiences and the Green Bay fans were awesome. Some playful banter but all good. We had one nasty fan but all the Pack fans around him told him to shut the F up which was good. Hearing that lousy talk against some of the Sconnie fans who were minding their own business is disturbing. I hope you all would tell aholes like that to shut up. My biggest fear is that it turns into like going to the Vikes games where majority of the people are hammered and belligerent and you don't want to bring your kids to that. I bring my kids to the Gophers game for that reason, much more family friendly.

And they'd like to have beer served at Camp Randall. Not that it would matter much, I'm sure the drinkers show up to the games pretty much already hammered. I grew up in Wisconsin, I am completely tired of putting up with drunks.

I am in the 5th row behind the visitors bench and the worst offenders were the badger players themselves yelling and swearing and giving fans the finger. Talk about assholes. That team is a train wreck as far as representing their school. I am so glad we have Fleck. They are an embarrassment. The worst behavior I saw was the players from Cal but the skunks win the grand prize and it is not even close.

-Cheering each time a Gopher player was injured and calling him a puss
-Saying the F word over 250 times during the course of the game
-Flipping off all the Gopher fans around them and saying "F*** YOU!!!!" every time the Badgers scored.

Better team wont today and I'm all for celebrating a win over a rival. I have a few friends/family that cheer for the red menace but the actions of those fans crossed a line.

I'll never forget when Alvarez first started winning, the Badgers were 6-0 for the first time basically ever, and the Badgers fans swarmed the Metrodome with about 20,000 or so, mostly in the one end zone, where it was blanketed red with belligerent dickishness. The U gave out mini Gopher footballs to the whatever first many fans. After the Gophers' first score, the fareking azzwipes in that end zone threw hundreds upon hundreds of those balls onto the field. It was a very long time until I more enjoyed seeing my team win a sporting event than that day.

They responded with Who is really the loser here ! We are from the west coast where sports is a passion but watching them is entertainment and participating is where the great passion is. I explained to the boys that nearly everyone else at the game was good natured back and forth. It only takes a few to ruin it and it seems to be alcohol related fueling frustrated fans sick of never winning.

Maybe we can all agree that the drunk assholes, regardless of the team they cheer for, are garbage human beings. I won't defend any of them. Being drunk is not an excuse for anything. I would have hoped that reasonable vikings fans would have stepped up in a situation like that.

I remember when I was in high school our fans got extremely belligerent toward the opposition basketball team, chanting "F you" at them. Our coach stopped the game, grabbed the microphone and told the crowd "this is not how we treat guests in our house, it stops now". I learned a lesson from that.

By far the worst and most obnoxious fans I have ever seen was at a skunks hockey game in Madison vs the Gophers. The Fck this and Fck that chants from the students. I would not want to expose my family or kids to that type of behavior. Of course, the students all have to stubble through the bars to get to the game.

With that said, I actually have to praise some Badger fans that came to my aid. I have a brother that needed to use a wheelchair for the game. I had trouble getting him from the vehicle, over a snow bank and into the wheelchair. Who were the first people that came to help when there were also Gopher fans around. Without hesitation, some Badger fans! Some things transcend rivalries! While I do still want my Gophers to always beat the Badgers, I tip my cap to those Badger fans. Other than a Badger daughter (Gopher Parents/ Season Ticket Holders) most of the fans I interacted with were very decent fans.

It doesn't surprise me that we had such different experiences though. Iowa 2002 comes to mind. A few bad apples don't surprise me. However, this year I experienced some pretty decent Badger fans. Probably the best ever.

No doubt there are drunk obnoxious fans in every state. The key difference is there are more from WI. There is a reason that UW frequently gets listed as a top party school.

Might as well re-tell my worst fan experience, which happened to be due to a Wisconsin fan. It was at the 2003 game at the Metrodome that was won on a last second Gopher field goal. I didn't have season tickets yet at that time. It was just my then 5 year old son and me. It was his first Gopher game. Gophers won, we were happy, I bought him a souvenir Gopher football, and we exited the stadium after the game. We were walking along, headed to the ramp on the NW side of the metrodome as I held his hand and he clutched the football with his other arm.

As we were walking, the football squirted out from under his arm and he pulled away from me to pick it up. I turned as he was picking it up and in an instant, this drunken Wisconsin dude came flying up and booted the football with all his might, as if it was an opening kickoff. I'm not sure how, because it was really close, but he managed to barely miss my 5 year old son's face and fingers as this dude kicked the ball. My son was still in a squat position as I lifted him up and I never had a chance to say a word. All the people behind us had seen what happened and no less than 5 guys had this Wisconsin a-hole up against one of the old 2D sports statues that used to be on that side of the Metrodome. Meanwhile, others had run out in the street to retrieve my son's football. We grabbed the ball and I carried him out of there as I could still hear all the yelling and scuffling behind us.

I'm super-glad we don't have to deal with this kind of stuff in Section 135. Nearly all are Gopher season ticket fans and everyone keeps things pretty positive, win or lose. I had one Wisconsin fan next to me and one in the row ahead of us and they were both pretty respectful. Considering the stadium has often had a lot of open seats and the season ticket base dropped after scholarship seating was introduced, it leaves a lot of sections that now fill with either new Gopher fans or opposing fans. Based on what I have seen and experienced over the years, I am both glad I don't see much of it these days but also certainly believe and understand what the OP was describing.

Fortunately I don't post for Stuck_In_Indy's pleasure. I made it pretty clear and specific where these fans were located. As stated, I have several friends/family that are Badger fans as I married a girl from Wisconsin.

Bingo. I have been to a lot of places in multiple sports, college, professional high school and Camp Randall is the absolute worst. It is hard to find any other word for it than just, ugly. And the alcohol excuse they use is pathetic. People drink alcohol everywhere, I do myself in excess before games, but I also know how to handle it. It doesn't cause me to scream, curse and try to fight people over a sporting event. Behaving like a high school kid who just had their first beer is pathetic.

I attended a Gopher - Badger hockey game at the Kohl Center in Madison about 7 years ago... taunting initiated by some students in the concourse on the way out of the arena. It actually escalated into an argument over which university had the better business school. I told the participants to knock it off as it looked embarrassingly like something out of The Revenge of the Nerds.

You must have not been at the Cal game. Even the coaches were involved with the taunting. People were taking videos of their behavior. I don't make this stuff up just because I dislike the skunks. They aren't voted the worst fan base in the Big Ten for nothing.

An Ohio University player did once. It blew up in his face because the Gophers made a big play pretty much right after that. Fans heckled him afterwards. It was nothing big. He just did the Kessel "I can't hear you" gesture.

Anyway, that is for the coaches to deal with. Just not smart.
