Simoni Lawrence cut by Rams

How do you get cut before training camp starts? Did he get paid at least?

Costa Rica- lots of guys will be cut before training camp, especially UDFA's and practice squad guys from the previous year. Teams can only have 80 players signed at any one time, and the vast majority of draft picks haven't signed yet (but the undrafted kids have signed). Most teams have roster in the 85-90 player range right now (including the unsigned draft picks). When the draft picks sign, someone has to go to get the roster down to 80.

Still very surprised to see Lawrence get cut so early.

because they have camp right now, and they bring in new guys to replace the ones who can't keep up.

If he doesn't catch on with an NFL team this fall, there are other opportunities, the CFL, Arena League or the UFL. (Although I do hate any league with "United" in the title, it sounds generic) Could be a way to keep fresh until a better opportunity comes along.

I think a summer league for players looking to get signed by NFL teams might be a good thing. You could have it be about 8 weeks, and it would fit in between the time college gets out for the year and when NFL training camps open. 9 teams, 8 games. There is semi-pro football, but while it might be a good way to keep up skills while trying to get a roster spot, it lacks visibility.

I agree that a summer league might be a good idea, but it would butt right up to training camp and anyone who looked good in the summer league would probably be too banged up to go full bore right out of the chute.

But instead of these asinine tryouts where teams bring in 40 guys and sign three, why not have a four-game season comprised of teams of non-drafted and non-preferred free agents starting on June 15 and running until July 15 (or something like that)? Have all the NFL teams throw in the coin to have six or eight teams of 40 to 45 players each.

Simoni Lawrence did provide the best accidental on air thing i heard in awhile last season when he ran a guy out of bounds near the yard marker. In the process, the yard marker hit him below the belt. The trainer came over and asked him what was wrong. He replied "Mother F***er hit my penis!"

Happened against Northwestern. Listen closely!

I will miss not seeing Simonie on the field next season. He was always a treat to watch. A very good LB.

The Philadelphia Eagles worked out unrestricted free-agent LB Simoni Lawrence (Rams) Wednesday, June 2, reports Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Simoni was drafted today in the UFL draft as was Anthony Montgomery
