Silence isn't an accident

In the end, it doesn't matter. When the Gophers announce their new coach, the vast majority of the Twin Cities sports media will criticize the choice. It doesn't matter who they hire, or when the name is announced. Teague is in a no-win situation with the media, and I suspect he knows it.

That's what I was trying to get at in another post.

Well said.

Short of Flip, he's likely to get ripped a new one by the media, and even then he'd get criticized for not hiring Flip right away (for the record, I've never been on the "it's gotta' be Flip" bandwagon) or for hiring a "NBA guy" who hasn't sniffed the college game in ages, other than observing from the stands.

Face the Facts has been spouting doom and gloom from the moment Tubby was fired. And he will spout the same doom and gloom after the next coach is hired regardless.

Don't jump off a cliff over other's pessimism. I am ridiculously sick of the pessimism about the pessimism of other fans. It is 100% certain that our AD knows more about what is happening than the couch ADs. We know that because he is sharing nothing. That said, there have been plenty of gross errors made by past ADs and we are seeing evidence of gaffes by this one. My guess is that you haven't been on this earth long enough to put this in perspective.

The biggest issue I am seeing with people's pessimism is that the only evidence we have right now is pure speculation and rumors. I understand that we have a history of gaffes in Minnesota (which is probably why people may think history will be repeated). However, are the mistakes from past AD's so egregious that our current AD gets lambasted before making his first hire? It doesn't make sense for any of us to expect that we are going to get the next Coach K, Izzo, etc., but it also doesn't make sense for any of us to get wound up mere rumors. I will reserve judgement until the hire is actually made.

With all due respect SS- I think Flip would have done a great job and would have been great for the U. However, I think the Pitino idea has a chance of quelling the negative response you are expecting. I like it and I've been all in for the Flipster. So that's one. Sounds like Rosen likes it...

I've been reading here, and following the twitter feeds whenever possible. I've quelled my anxiety by regarding the axiom of my youth, espoused by my parents..."No news is good news!"

Our microwave culture, our 24 hour news cycle culture, our instant gratification culture, all DEMAND information.

But...Teague hasn't tipped his hand. Our TC news hounds are left to opine and speculate in blatantly self-serving fashion. Bottom line: We'll have a coach soon. He'll be a good one. Basketball hires are in Mr. Teague's wheelhouse.

We should pop our collective valium and hope for the best. The news will come. We will rejoice soon.

Pretty exciting stuff!

Go Gophers!
