Sid's take on Shaka/Tubby this morning

Kudo's to Sid for not cowering to Teague and being man enough to call the spade a spade

Tubby got fired because he didn't do a good job on and off the court with the team. It's same reason we fire all our coaches. Monson, Brewster, Wacker, Clem, and Mason were all terminated with good cause. Who the hell is Sid to question the decision in the way that he did? They should put him out to pasture, but they won't because he sells newspapers and we all listen to him on the radio.

Mason and Tubby drove the Chevy quite well...Sid has been around long enough to evaluate coaching success from a historical perspective better than you. The U of M is an Chevy not a Maserati ...can only go so fast no matter who is behind the wheel

Sid is in no way able to evaluate a coach at this point. Period.

The only way Sid evaluates a coach is by how much info they give him. Remember that spade thing?

I am no Sid fan and he was fairly classless on Monday in his style, but the substance of his question was on the mark. The more I reflect, the more I equate Tubby with Mason. Good guys who didn't seem particularly motivated. They both had middling success at a program with a middling reputation (at least recently). Maturi had had it with Mason and I supported him in pulling the trigger. His big mistake was hiring Brewster over Strong. The only question there is would Strong have elevated the program. Can't prove the negative, so we'll never know.

Like the Mason situation, I have no problem with the dismissal of Tubby, but I truly wonder if we can land a high-quality candidate to replace him. As THE SCOUT has said, we're perceived as a Chevy program and most coaches love the Maserati whether they can drive it or not. My other question is, "Is Shaka Smart simply the flavor of the year in the same way Dan Monson was when he was at Gonzaga?" We all see how that turned out.

There's never a guarantee with anyone you hire. The point is you don't quit trying to hire the right one.

Tubby turned into Mason-Light.

Besides being the abrasive jackass we all somehow tolerate, I was glad he was able to identify Tom Izzo as "EYE-zo". He's only one of the top 5 best known coaches in the country.

That was so ridiculous.

Thanks for the update Schnauzer. Sid is bitter that Tubby was fired, but his comment about some coaches not wanting to come here after the way it was handled may have some merit to it, not that Sid is getting this info first hand.

Go Gophers!!

Specifically?

I am surprised Sid hasn't promoted Pat Knight yet.

Looks like Sir Sidney chumped all you chumps ...who thought norwood had Smart in the bag
