Is anyone else concerned regarding the physical and mental well being of our very own Sid Hartman ? yesterday at the Press Conference it seemed like he was on the verge of either

A: a stroke
or
B: a nervous breakdown.

I thought he was going to throw his walker at Teague at one point. The "I don't know what number you were" comment was priceless.

He's 93. I've bee predcting for years he will die in a car accident becasue he's still out there driving and God help those who are in his way!

Sid's physically very well for a 94 year old man.

Mentally he's been going downhill badly for the last couple years. He's always been a crank, but he's almost unintelligable now.
I occasionally listen to WCCO in the morning if the weather is bad, and I've caught his bit with Dave Lee a few times recently. I honestly don't know how they still allow him to go on the air. It's just sad at this point. I understand why the Strib keeps him around, but he should not be allowed to speak on the radio any longer.

Why do we have a thread like this after every press conference? Sid is 93 and is doing something he has more passion for than most. The guy has earned the right to say what he wants. People can make fun of him, but most wish they had the respect he has in the sports world.

Knowing Sid, he will die the perfect death...He will be shot by a jealous husband when he is 99.

The fact that the Strib keeps him on the payroll is embarrassing. Not only can he no longer speak, hear, remember, write, drive, or generally move around, his general lack of professional courtesy is a horrible example for young journalists. Somewhere there is a young college grad who can't find a job in journalism because Sid is still hanging around gumming up the microphone with his incoherent thoughts.

He's our very own Abe Simpson.

Being 93 does not give you the right to act like a horse's patoot. Sid was downright rude and unprofessional. He hasn't been a decent journalist since I attended the U and that was over 25 years ago. He has long been a joke as a writer and its sad that the Strib and CCO continue to trot him out there.

Sid's always been full of crap. Now he's just old on top of that. He's extraordinarily arrogant and dismissive of anyone or anything that didn't bow to his greatness. This despite being dead wrong with his takes much of the time. Ask any media member that has worked with or near him. He's legendary for his lack of professionalism.

Bottom line: whoever takes this job, Teague will have to brief him on what to expect at the press conference.

Can we buy out Sir Sidney's contract? With all the cuts in the newspaper industry, I imagine his contract is only worth 48k.

I suppose this is just "Sid being Sid?" Sorry, not an excuse for being a jackass to Norwood -- or anyone else. Embarrassing that the Strib let's him get away with that. He's no better than an old, cranky Bob Knight. He just hasn't physically stangled anyone.

Guys, he asked the only two relevant questions at the press conference.

I thought his questions and points were very valid, but his delivery was pretty funny.

Sid is Sid - nothing is going to change. Sid II (Dave Lee) is in line to take his place when it comes to being one of the local media members who is so out of touch with the whole Tubby story and mens hoops in general. This morning on CCO's early TV show, Dave Lee had a radio cut-in for the TV show - he said he was shocked 'as we all were' in the letting go of Tubby.. He went on to say how he thought that the talk of letting Tubby go had diminished recently.. Really Dave?? To me, this just shows his total lack of understanding of the current state of Gopher Mens BB. If CCO really wanted a decent take on this, why not have Mark Rosen give his thoughts? Cross marketing trumps accurate reporting I guess :) Thankfully Dave Lee doesn't still do the play by play. It took a while - but the U and the radio gods finally made the correct move regarding Dave Lee.

I hope Sid never dies!

I'll miss him when he's gone.

I can almost count 4 generations of my family who've read Sid. What a life!

The title of this thread got Mike Max all excited.

Then he opened it, read it and went back into waiting mode.

Unfortunately or fortunately Sid's takes have turned into good sports comedy. It depends if you are a listener/viewer, or WCCO/Star Trib. Still a cash cow for the station/paper. I'll miss him when he is gone as well.

Uhhhh....cuz Mark works for another radio station?

WCCO TV morning show is what I was referring to. Mark had good takes on the Tubby situation last night on TV - why not in the morning on TV as well?

Have to give Mike Max credit for having Sidney on The Sports Show. It can't be easy :)

My text to a friend during the press conference yesterday was Is Sid drunk?

Guys, he asked the only two relevant questions at the press conference.

Amen to that. Sid is totally full of bologna, but I thought his questions were right to point. I can understand why Tubby was let go and I'm fine with that, but Sid's points about where we go from here were pertinent. Blame whomever you want (most blame Maturi), but this hasn't been a destination job in most sports for a long time. I thought most of the other questions pertained to the buy-out and while that is a huge issue at a level, what's Teague going to say about that other than it has to be paid.

I don't have a problem with the questions he asked, only in the manner he asked them. If your main claim to fame is being the close personal friend of everybody in the business you should understand that once in a while one of them is going to get canned. You need to be professional about it. Asking someone about why he made a decision is fine. Prefacing the question by declaring he was unqualified to make it is a cheap A#$ move. The only reason he didn't get tossed out on his kiester is because more than likely he'd break a hip. He's an embarrassment and he needs to hang it up if he can't handle his friends getting fired.

What a bunch of morons troll this site. Sid is a treasure. MaxyJr and Studwell are right. He might be a little grumpy but the fact that he is 93, still working, and doing what he loves should give him a pass a little. Just because you don't like what he says doesn't mean you need to disparage the guy. Who is this PhiPho d-bag anyways? He should take off his crew socks and sandals, get out of mom and dad's basement and contribute something to society! Get a life you F'stick!

Sid has been asking questions that way for decades. Is it appropriate? No - but he's the 'dean' of sportswriters in Mn., so I'll give him that. His friends getting fired is the big issue as it takes away from his access - that's what makes him mad/angry and embarrassing all at the same time. Good comedy - once again.

Sid is a cartoon. I take it from your moniker that maybe you and Sid have a working relationship. Look at it this way, if Sid hangs em up you'll have more time to give him a sponge bath and he will have a little more time to give you those showers you seem to enjoy. As for contributing to society unless you've spent the last twenty years teaching and working at a Title I school shut the hell up.
