• Apparently millionaire T. Denny Sanford lost interest in contributing to the Gophers athletic program when the University of Minnesota administration killed any chance of Sanford’s giant medical group merging with the Fairview Health System. But while Gophers football coach Jerry Kill won’t talk about his relations with Sanford, the word from a good source is that Sanford still has contact with Kill, and if he contributes to the school’s $190 million campaign for athletic practice facilities, it will be only to aid the university football program.

Go Gophers!!

That bites. At least he hasn't ruled out a big contribution to AggieVision. Lord knows they need it.

If Denny takes his ball and goes home one more time, his mommy is going to need to have a sports themed garage sale.

Norwood...go get some knee pads and get over to T Denny's house and work your magic!

No wonder you guys elected all the liberals, that's how business operates. You got the gold you make the plays.

Shhh. Some like to pretend its better this way. No business deal done and no large contribution to the school. A win-win...

I'm not happy with T. Denny's sour grapes. What a tool.

I like your takes, when the U spurned his business moves what do you expect? Would you be overly complimentary to a business that got rid if you? I wish he would help but can't blame him for feeling like a jilted lover.

If being a liberal means I don't give out desperate handjobs for spare change to rich oligarchs, then yes I suppose I'm a liberal.

If the only reason he was contributing money was to garner favor for his own business deals, *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# him.

Read Gopherprof's last post. He said it best. The only reason he was thinking about contributing that much money was to garner favor for his own benefit. WTF kind of booster is that? Not one I want giving to the athletics dept. that's for sure. To me, that just shows he's a bigger fan/lover of his money than the Gophers.

Sanford was engaging in classic pay for play. He was trying to get a merger done with a legal form of bribery. Thank goodness we have some elected leaders with a brain to protect us from this kind of corruption.

However, if he actually loves Gophers sports so much that he decides to donate his hard-earned money without an expected payback, then the university should happily accept.

VERY unfortunate that the University of Minnesota Hospital was EVER put into a merger with the "unable to turn enough profit" Fairview System that obviously was willing to put the U of M's TEACHING HOSPITAL up for sale to a South Dakota-based Hospital Corporation. The University of Minnesota Hospital and Medical School really does NEED to be provincial and PROTECTIVE of it's ties to the State of Minnesota.

Sanford can do what ever Sanford wants to do...but...he can not BUY something that belongs to the citizens and the state of Minnesota. I realize that Healthcare is changing and the economics of running a hospital has forced and will force ALL KINDS of changes. However, as long as the University of Minnesota has a medical school it NEEDS a Minnesota based, controlled and operated MINNESOTA TEACHING HOSPITAL SYSTEM. A Minnesota tradition, history and future MUST be preserved. To have our teaching hospital at the University of Minnesota owned and operated by some outfit based out of South Dakota would have been a sell-out of the future of our University...our Medical School...our good, common sense... Denny T. should KNOW that and UNDERSTAND that. Some things need NEVER be for sale...and T Denny, there are some things that you just can't buy...

Hopefully Norwood has a few other big fish he can hook. We need about $200,000,000 in donations to get in the game. Let's go Norwood. Get it done.

Isn't it borderline illegal? That is on the border of breaking a pay to play law.

. Beat me to it. Didn't see this before I posted.

Most wink/nod deals involving political contributions/donations border on illegal; the trick is finding people who aren't being paid off to do nothing about it.

The only surprising thing about the Sanford incident is that he didn't get what he wanted. No wonder he's throwing a fit.

The company I work for doesn't allow political donations because they don't want the appearance of being involved in pay for play because we invest institutional endowments and public employee pension funds.

Yes, I am still waiting to see IF our Norwood is capable of raising money for the U of M Athletic Department Revenue Sports "Big three..." revenue generators. He has been here over two years and the results to date are more than slightly underwhelming. He has managed to bring in lots of assistants from VCU...maybe that can put him over the top with his fund-raising efforts...I would LOVE to see him do something big in the fund-raising area of his job...but...will have to see it before I will believe it. I'm kind of old-fashioned that way. I have to see the ground breaking ceremonies take place before I believe anything of consequence is really happening behind the scenes... Seeing IS believing.

Do we have any numbers to compare between Maturi and Woody? I know a lot of fundraising comes through specific campaigns and we are just launching one now, but it would be interesting to see the numbers.

A university this size should not have to be dependent upon one donor.

It is sad that this actually has to be pointed out. How many alumni does The U have? I would guess around 500,000. They have many alumni who are worth millions, and they can barely get a dime.

T. Denny does not own Sanford Health. He is not an officer of Sanford Health. Sanford Health is a not-for-profit healthcare system. T. Denny does not profit from the dealings of Sanford Health and did not stand to gain financially from the merger of Fairview University and Sanford Health. T. Denny has made something like $700 million in donations to what was formerly known as Sioux Valley Health beginning with $16 million for a children's hospital and followed by $400 million to catapult Sanford into a major player in medical research. T. Denny was in no way a part of the business relationship between Sanford Health and Fairview and the Collective Sid should more carefully report the relationship.

Bolded is exactly what people do NOT understand. T. Denny contributes TO Sanford Health, does NOT profit from.

Normally I wouldn't think this was very funny. But because it was said by Sid Hartman, I chuckled a bit.

Does it move his ego meter?

Does Sid have a moral compass?

LOL.......can we attach this to my other post?.......

A Wren post that I agree with? I'm checking outside to see if there are any flying pigs right now.
