doesnt purdue have only 1 post player? hahaha

Exactly. If you want to know why that is a joke just watch the Big 10 Tournament game vs. the Gophers from last year. Colt made an absolute idiot out of Jajuan Johnson because he has no bulk and can't guard against a physical body.

I thought that was a little high as well but a few comments/question.

1. Do you really think Purdue was a bad as they played against the Gophers in the B10 Tourney?
2. JuJuan Johnson benched 325 the other day according to the coaches.
3. Would you trade Iverson for Johnson straight up for this season?
4. They are considering Hummel a front court player, but he can play anywhere on the court.
5. Purdue does have some depth in the front court this year. JJ and Hummel lead the way of course. All accounts say Patrick Bade is much improved and we have 2 new bigs, 1 being a red shirt freshmen the other 1 a true freshmen. You can also toss in the 6' 6" DJ Byrd who can play the 4 if needed. So Purdue does have depth in the front court this year.

Still only Hummel (F) and Johnson (C) are #1 In The Nation caliber frontcourt players. The others are decent back-ups.

Redic to have Purdue at #1, especially considering Hummel's injury...will he come back with the speed and hops and aggressiveness?

Illinois should be #1 and will win the Big Ten this year.

[This was sadly prophetic as Hummel was announced out for year about an hour after I posted this...Sorry Robbie...Best of luck to you!]

Mich St, Ohio St also strong B10 contenders.

But U of IL has frosh stars Richmond and Leonard in frontcourt.

I like the logic there. Purdue played with half their frontcourt in that game, so clearly that's a good reference point.

The Illinois team that didn't make the tournament last year?

can hummel even be considered part of a frontcourt? hes a SF that plays the 4 because they have 1 true post player. he doenst even score in the paint 80% of the time

Valid points and obviously Purdue is still good w/o Hummel because didnt they make the sweet 16?

However when it comes to Jajuan vs Colton or Sampson, Sampson had 2 pretty good games vs Johnson, 1 being his best game of the year and Colton had a pretty good game vs Johnson in the BTT.

Our bigs will be able to hold their own against any team in the big ten. Colton is one year meaner and ready to duke it out with the Michigan State bigs and Trevor can play angry. Ralph is likely to remain a little soft but Walker is 5 more hard fouls if one of the other three bigs foul out. No team should be able to out rebound us by a significant margin and we should own the boards against the 2nd tier teams. This could be a very good sweet 16 team. Do we have the guards to take us further...? Maybe, if no one gets hurt.

mnboiler, JJ is not as his best when Kramer and Hummel are gone. He often shoots bricks when pushed away from the basket. For him to be number one front man in the Big10, I think he needs to do alot more than benching 325. I think Green is the best front man in Big10 as much I dislike him for what he was trying to do against Iverson last year. I still cheer for our boilers but I think the season will be very long in WL.

Go Gophers

Ralph and Johnson

Ralph had 2 pretty good games against Johnson to bad it was 2 of about only 7 good games all year.. Ralph needs to step up if Trevor was able to play last year you would have seen Trevor play some 5..

Ralph need to pick up his game big time he is a junior. Forget Jajuan Johnson I hope Ralph becomes as good as Jerry Holman. Ralph doesnt have to be spectacular just consistent and not a tease...

So would you trade either Sampson or Iverson for JJ straight up this year?

That's not the question. Would you trade Sampson/Mbakwe for JJ/Bade? That's a much closer comparison.

for whatever its worth, would you trade Colt, Sampson, Mbakwe, Walker- for Bade, Johnson, and ? sandi M i guess? yes, obviously you would

Would I trade Purdue FC for Minnesota FC good question. The honest answer is that I am going to think about it. If Purdue still had Hummel I would say no without hesitating without him I'm not sure.

1. Do you really think Purdue was a bad as they played against the Gophers in the B10 Tourney?

No. But I do remember Ralph having his way against JJ at the Barn last season, and Ralph is no strong man. I'd think you'd have trouble against bigger, bruising front courts, although there aren't many of those in the Big 10.

MadTown: I finally watched the Duke youtube clip from your tagline. As fun as that was, don't you think it's a little bit of an insult? Almost like the crowd at Mariucci chanting Alabama-Huntsville, or some other nothing hockey program, if they had just upset UND? Still fun, though...I'm just hyper-sensitive.

Exactly! That's no compliment for Duke fans to taunt UNC fans for having lost to Minn-e-sota, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha

I found this tidbit interesting where he calls Rodney Williams an "elite defender". I think of Rodney as being a good defender, with a chance to become an elite defender. Thoughts?

• We aren't seeing the real Harrison Barnes. The first freshman to be named a first-team AP All-America did not have a strong final two games of the tournament, going 0-for-12 from the field for six points against Minnesota, and 4-of-12 from the field for 11 points against Vanderbilt. While Barnes was being guarded by two elite defenders (the Gophers' Rodney Williams and the Commodores' Jeffery Taylor), he still isn't playing in the fluid, athletic style that we became accustomed to on the summer circuit.

He is absolutely NOT an elite defender. He is an elite athlete but there is no way he is our best perimeter defender. Al is far superior to Williams. I agree he could become an elite defender but I think he is overrated in every aspect right now and needs to really step up defensively if he isn't going to do more on offense or else he will be quickly out of the starting lineup.
