I thought Leidner played hard.

I do think if Weber played from 2018-2022 he would have had great numbers and would be thought of as our best QB in a long long time

This is certainly true if you look at Morgan in 18, 20, 21
Morgan’s 19 was special but if you eliminate that season Weber was probably better

But if you eliminate that you’re eliminating the best QB season by a gophers post Cold War


I think they’re close. I give slight edge to Morgan.

This was the first name that I didn't see on list that raised my eyebrow.

Lists like these there will always be an omission that perhaps should be on it....

Fair. I’d agree 2019 puts Morgan slightly over Weber. I think Weber was more talented though.

When you consider the running ability Id agree he is more talented
I’d rank him behind Morgan in terms of “gopher greatness”
So depends on how you make the list I suppose

But he also had far more interceptions and far more losses.

Webers yardage stats were largely a function of being behind a lot.
The years where Weber threw 44 of his touchdowns the team was 4-20
The years where Weber threw 27 touchdowns the team was 13-13

Winning isn’t a team stat. But losing caused webers total stats to be inflated, IMO.



I also think I’d have a linebacker or two over cashman. Cashman had some big time games and moments but wasn’t even a full time player for a lot of his career.

Yes, the general consensus probably favors Morgan over Weber because 2019. But if you plop Weber into the Morgan years it would be a fun thing to watch...If you drop Morgan into Weber's years he would flounder and get stuck behind Marqueis Gray, and maybe even Clint Brewster.
I respect and credit both quarterbacks for what they brought to the program. However, if I had to choose a starting quarterback for the All-Quarter Century Team, my pick is Adam Weber.

And just to note, Weber had only 4 years. Morgan had, like, 11 or 12 or something like that.

Agree with most of it
To add another wrinkle, if Morgan “went pro” after 2019 he may have gone down as one of the all time greats in gopher history.

Since he stayed a couple more years and was merely average, that weighed him down.

His highs were higher than webers. His Lows were statistically lower.
But I also have to remember that the gophers won more games in 2021 and 2022 (Morgan’s worse years) than they did during the entirety of webers career.


So ranking them depends on how you value wins. How you value total stats vs best season stats.

Ranking either 1-2 is justifiable I think.
