Should the Gophers have lost?

After seeing all the post game press conference stuff, I don't feel like Jerry really knows what is wrong or how to fix it. He seems like he's taking the blame for others and not really being specific on what needs to be changed. It also comes as sarcastic as, "Fire me," and, "We still won, so that's what matters."

Also, no one seems to ask him about play calling or how the offense is running outside of the QB.

It seems like Jerry's taking the heat now and after the Vikings game and the Twins prove their not a playoff team, the heat will die down and all he'll have to deal with is the QB problem (which should be addressed, but there's more problems than that). Ultimately, it'll be all talk and nothing truly will change.

I know die hards will say to never let your team lose, but if they play like this vs. Ohio, they just might lose. If they lost today, things might really change and the loss to Ohio might not be as possible as it is now.

I'm grateful I have a cousin's wedding next Saturday, as it won't make me watch the terrible terrible offense that is the Gophers.

Should they have lost? Should Jerry go back to the booth and call plays? Is there a benefit of hiding plays for Big 10 play?

No. The only points that KS scored were off a strip return. On offense.......we doubled their yardage. They would have had to score more than ten to deserve to win. The one difference that kept them in the game was that they had three turnovers.

My sense is that KS was stacking 8-9 guys in the box, trying to force an inconsistent Leidner to pass against them. The coaches may have gone into the game trying to limit the playbook to keep their more creative plays close to the vest against NW and B1G. After 2 ints, they backed off the deeper passes. After the strip-fumble, MN went full on conservative vanilla play calling. Run the ball between the tackles, even with the box stacked with 9 guys. Was not effective, at all. I wonder if the coaches relied on the defense to pitch the shutout and to prevent further turnovers, took the foot off the gas on offense. Ugly win, but I'm hoping they do enough to beat Ohio and finally come out swinging in the B1G season with aggressive play calling.

Listening to Kill and players after the game, they don't seem as worried as the fans and media are. Leads me to believe they have something up their sleeves...

They took their foot off the gas after racking up 10-point?!? Yeah, right. I don't think so. If they did what you suggest and sit on a four point lead, then Kill is right and he should be fired. I don't believe for one minute that was the case. Our offense was desperate to score until the victory formation. We are just damn fortunate the defense is stellar and KS offense was so awful.

Losing to Kent State wouldn't have helped us against Ohio. You don't have to be a diehard not to want your team to lose, it's pretty basic.

Contrary to the score I think everyone in the stadium knew Kent state couldn't move the ball. Still hangs onto the ball we probably score a TD that drive, go up 17 and rout is on but we didn't amid it was what it was. The O was horrendous, but the D was stellar. I don't think Kent State moved the ball over the 50 (they may have, I don't think they did though). So they deserved to win.

Maybe my sarcasm meter isn't working but I'm just making fun with Kill's post game interview. I appreciate the emphasis on academics, what appear to be good citizens, and improving football especially on D. Kill is the real deal but there is no way anyone can convince me that Kill & Co. had a game plan that our offense would coast after putting up 10-points. This might make sense in hockey but football? No way!

The defense held Kent State to 142 yards. I don't care if you're playing Kent State or Kent Dorfman, holding the other team to 142 yards is a heck of an accomplishment.

As someone who has sat through years of Gopher teams that couldn't stop a 6 year old kid from crossing the street, it's something to watch a Gopher team that can really play defense.

Here's a thought - during the Mason years, how many times did Gopher fans pray/wish for "a team that could really play defense." well, those prayers have been answered. we just forgot to pray/wish for a team that could play offense and defense at the same time.
