Should Tanner Morgan be the #2 contender for the Heisman in the B1G?

If the Gophers win for team recognition nationwide along with an outstanding performance by Morgan, yes he has a shot at the top award.

Martinez stinks... Rondale Moore, Morgan or Bateman are the three to compete with Fields

If Tanner does what he did last year he will win the Heisman Trophy.
I don’t understand. Last year he did what he did last year and he didn’t get a single vote. Why would he win it this year?

Win 11 games aka win a championship, and have the same stats with 4 less non conference games! Might come down to how badly he outplays Trevor Lawrence in the championship game... assuming the Heisman selection happens after the championship this year 😏

There is absolutely zero chance of Tanner Morgan getting even a single Heisman vote.

Rashod Bateman and even Mo Ibrahim have better chances.

Tanner is the sort of QB that advanced stats, tape-watchers, and the W-L column love. Perhaps NFL scouts as well. But Heisman voters? The counting stats simply won't be there in this system over 8 conference-only games.

I disagree with your first two points but think your summary of Tanner at the end is pretty spot on.

Tanner would be a long shot for the Heisman but if the Gophers were to go 8-0 and he were to put up great numbers in leading the team to that record he would have a shot. But it will basically take perfection for him to get considered over guys like Fields and Lawrence.

At this point the Heisman is a QB award. Since 2000 it has gone to a non QB 2 times and one of those was vacated (Reggie Bush). Rondale Moore is one of the few skill guys with a legit shot because he has video game like plays and is part of the return game.

Morgan's biggest problem in terms of the Heisman is that he is boring. And when I say that I don't mean that as a shot at him at all. He doesn't have a ton of long bombs or flashy runs, he just goes out there and makes great decisions and gets the job done.

It is the whole reason that they would mention multiple guys ahead of Morgan in their article, including the Michigan QB who hasn't done a damn thing yet at the college level.

Big Mo averages 170 per game this year and leads us to the Conf Champ Game...gets invited to NYC!

Half their fan base is pissed Martinez is even still the starting QB...
I am scared for McCaffery. Frost has already said that he has "basically two starters". More or less pinning his hopes on him.

If he can't deliver a championship to Lincoln by next year, they'll run them both out, and keep on looking for someone who can. Psychos

We would have to win the national championship or at least make the champ game, for Tanner to win essentially the MVP award for college football.

Hey, we can always dream big!

I don't think the Gophers will go 9-0 and win the B1G. But, if something magical happens and the Gophers go 9-0 and win the B1G, it is very likely Morgan would play a huge part in that (barring injury or covid). Undefeated power 5 teams tend to get Heisman attention for their best players, and an undefeated Gopher team would have Morgan at or near the front of the line in terms of national exposure and Heisman attention. Gino Torretta, anyone?

Again, I'm certainly not predicting this, or an undefeated Gopher season. But, I think "absolutely zero chance" is too strong of a statement in the other direction.

Tanner's only shot is we go undefeated and PJ, instead of doing what the metrics and play call would indicated at the time, allows Tanner to scavenge the TDs near the goal line through more keeps or by passing more in this situation. The number of one and two yard TDs can really skew numbers for a player if you want them to have numbers in contention (which is why Morgan, given we run so much wildcat in those situations, will never have numbers that will be remotely in the discussion of the Heisman)

Minn-vs-Mich is national TV game w lots of hype from ABC and lots of history. This is a prove-it year for Gophs to show last year wasn't a fluke. Same w morgan. So if morgan/gophers beat Mich, he automatically gets heisman consideration. play well and win Saturday then play well and win rest of way, he's in New York. I think he ends up in New York
