Shooter: USC "has the Gophers' Tubby Smith on its radar"

@DarrenWolfson: #Gophers official on this Tubby-USC talk: "Not buying it at all. Zero chance of it happening. 100% false."

Go Gophers!!

I was sure there was no chance until Doogie chimed in...

Doogie is long overdue to get something correct...so he states the obvious

1. The weather.

2. Los Angeles is the most fertile recruiting ground west of Chicago year in and year out.

3. The conference sucks, and your chance to win titles is a lot better than stepping into the B1G. Your only consistent legitimate threat in the Pac-12 is Arizona, and they are just "coming back". UCLA isn't a dumpster fire, but they are hardly the Bruins of old. Oregon is an enigma because of Nike $$$ and the possibility that Altman brings them back.

4. The weather.

5. The facilities are much better than Minnesota's.

6. Did I mention the weather?

UCLA and Arizona are way, way better jobs than USC. Oregon, Stanford and Cal are better as well. I concede the weather but I think it's over-rated as a factor in recruiting. Recruiting for the non-blue bloods is still primarily about keeping the local players home. Is it easier to keep Rashad Vaughn from going to Duke, or the LA version of him from going to UCLA? I guess we'll find out.

And USC is coming off of sanctions. There's a reason they hired Kevin O'Neil. And there's a reason they hired Tim Floyd.

Why is Tubby named for EVERY job? His agent must send out feelers. Distasteful.

What do you think station19? Seriously, let Tubby go and start again, with a new, unknown entity as coach?!

I've been borderline on Tubby for quite awhile. Let's see how this season plays out.

Huge 12 months coming up:
How well will this team do.
Will next year fall to bottom tier.
What will the recruiting class of 2014 look like.

I'm getting closer.

Can we offer them Tubby and we'll even throw in the first year's pay?

per Shooter:

"There's already whispering that Southern California, which fired Kevin O'Neill as men's basketball coach the other day, has the Gophers' Tubby Smith on its radar. At USC, Smith could end up with $1 million more in annual compensation than he gets from the Gophers, for a total of about $3 million. And he would have state-of-art facilities, including a practice facility like the one he has coveted at Minnesota.

Smith's contract runs through the 2016-17 season but includes an understanding that new terms can be discussed after this season. If he gets the Gophers to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament, it's almost imperative that Minnesota renegotiate."

Go Gophers!!

Good luck in LA Tubby. You stole $2,000,000 per year from the U of M. Tonight was a complete embarrassment! Were you surprise for the 5th year in a row that Northwestgern runs a 1-3-1 half court zone OMG!

Here is the deal USC...we will trade you Tubby for the $ for a practice facility.

Sid, you're slipping. Tell them we'll throw in Maturi.

Hell, tell them we'll throw in Parski if they need the cap space.

Grumble, grumble. We just won and will probably be in the top 20 tomorrow. Please take our coach. Grumble, grumble.

I'm still not sold on this Shaka Smart guy. Like all one-hit wonders, I'll wait for the 2nd single to do well in the charts first.

One thing I may add is the style of play that is so much better than this ugly style of B1G basketball that consists of clogging the paint. There is no way that Shaka's style of coaching would survive this conference. Smart is a young Tubby.

Go Gophers

And USC's offense is a thing of beauty? I'd say Michigan's looks OK as well.

So Shaka Smart goes to the final 4 (in which it takes 5 wins rather than the normal 4) then wins a tournament game again last year, as a lower seed, and has a top 25 team again this year and that is a one hit wonder? Not to mention the guy is 35 wow. Not saying whether Tubby should be fired or not fight to keep or if we even have a chance at him but that run does not speak to one hit wonder.

Not in the top 25 but nice try bud.

Sorry my rankings aren't current but a team that has been a top 25 throughout the season and is currently leading a darn good A-10 (currently 7th in RPI ahead of SEC and Miss Valley) with a 6-2 conference record and have a chance to be ranked Monday with two straight W's this week. Still think to call Shaka Smart a one hit wonder is asinine.

Shaka Smart is the basketball equivalent of Tony Dungy. The posters on here can pine all day for him, but if he doesn't want to coach here, it's pretty pointless to show Tubby the door for him.
