Go Gophers!!

I love how this line literally took no journalistic work to create. Something like - Gopher parking lot has X# of Tesla's - x# of $50k plus sports cars - x# of pick-up trucks may have actually been interesting. But just stating something everyone knows to be true - since college atheletes are now paid, is just lazy.

I wish I could get paid for stating the obvious at my job.

The fact they have a parking lot should be the story.
My frat house had a parking lot. Small businesses in Dinkytown and Stadium Village have parking lots. A facility that draws hundreds to it on a regular basis should have a parking lot.

It's probably not a "players parking lot" and is likely a parking lot for the Athletes Village for anyone who needs to be there. Coaches, staffers, players, vendors, etc

If there is a special Gopher football players parking lot I would be surprised.

Clarification should be surprised they have access to a lot.

What a great look. Charging most of the students $200 so the guys with the Range Rovers and Tesla’s can be more competitive.
While I won't justify the $200 I will say that some of the rooms around the U look nicer than any place I lived until I was like ... age 30?

Times change, expectations change.

I was at the U from 99-03 when University Village and Sanford apartments were the brand new thing that the football players got a leg up on getting a spot in. I had a 9 month stint in Argyle House before I joined a frat.

Now, from visiting campus recently, it appears the average students are living in places like those, but more modern.

The level of housing on campus (beyond the same dorms that have always been there) has escalated a lot since I was in college, based on my many trips back for football games. Way more new construction private apartment complexes.

And why not from the investor POV, since college students will pile into overpriced places together and split an overall rent that's higher than the market for 20 somethings will bear.

they are probably stuck with whatever content management platform their private equity holding company gives them.
I grew up reading the Pioneer Press. I'm honestly surprised they're still in business.

I was there from 95-98. Some buddies were there beginning in 93. Dorms were horrible. The house I lived in should have been condemned.

I won't disagree with you there. Your college years should be the biggest dumps you have ever lived in, not the best for the next 10 years.

Go Gophers!!

I remember reading a quote from former Gopher head coach, Cal Stoll (I believe?)… the Gophers had traveled a 1/2 century ago to an away game at non-conference foe, Nebraska. The Gophers were in Lincoln the day before the big game, and were bussing over to the stadium for a walk-through.

Apparently, the Gophers’ team bus was passing by the Huskers’ player parking lot, as Coach Stoll was gazing out the window. He noticed the type of cars in the players’ lot, and muttered, “oh oh, we’re in trouble”

Things might be evening out a bit now during this NIL era. (y)
