Per Shooter:

>> A Gophers’ 6-6, 320-pound fifth-year senior offensive tackle this season is playing for a $450,000 NIL stipend.

>> It is expected to cost the Gophers at least $1 million to retain redshirt QB Drake Lindsey for his sophomore season next year. That would make him and 2016 junior defensive back Koi Perich at least a $2 million duo. Add Darius Taylor and the cost could exceed $3 million for trio.

Go Gophers!!

Can we spend 3 mil on an O line instead?
Taylor has been a great RB for the Gophers but how likely is it that a less talented RB can produce similarly with a better OL?

After seeing this season, whatever money they have available needs to go to building the lines first. Second tier is probably QB, CB, WR/TE, and finally RB, LB and S.

The NFL has already shown that it values RB the least on offense.

Why not just name him rather than give people a puzzle to solve? Oh that's right, it's because Shooter is a washed up old hack. (Spoiler alert--it's Dylan Ray.)
Talk about bad return on an investment. He started but it was very apparent early that he shouldn't. What a time to be a good young athlete.

Only joking - I'm all for paying these fellas, give it all to Drake if necessary.

I guess what I’m saying is if their current allocation gets them the OL we saw last year, reallocate the funds and make uncomfortable cuts if needed.

Drake won’t have success if his OL is awful.
If this is truly a business decision, Drake is getting $1 million (maybe more), and you are allocating the other $2 million to the OL and defense. It's a no-brainer.

They should just play for the scholarship like the old days. That was enough I was told.
Or since this is minor leagues just don't attend school for the stars and save the scholarship money. Why waste the money on credits at least for basketball? Some leave for the pros after a year anyways. Either NIL or scholarships but not both.

Wow! I can’t believe you outed Dylan. You’re in so much trouble now! 🤣

I have a hard time believing you couldn’t get a better trio for 3 million.

I like Lindsey but he is immobile and threw for 2200 yards and 17 touchdowns….
Are there really 50 QBs commanding a million per year?

For context NFL Brosmer is about a million per year….

Does the QB for mid level P4 teams make more than NFL third stringers? That’s wild to me

It very well could be accurate but I have a hard time taking shooters word for it

Go Gophers!!
Did anyone notice Robb Smith our former fired DC was fired again at Rutgers?

Why is our O Line so bad? What about our tried and true strategy of finding 3 star recruits (many big boys from the Midwest) and coaching them up? I get that it's hard to recruit to the D line, but I always thought O line recruiting would be easier. And up until last year, our O lines have been pretty good. Can we turn this problem around quickly (like next year)?

The number thrown around (not gonna check and not consulting “AI”) is 12-15% of payroll goes to a good starting QB in the NFL. So that’s around 1.5M+and he’s worth it, just getting started. DT…nope. That’s just a bad gamble at this point. Can’t tie up that much money in a guy who’s there for 1/4 to 1/2 the season.

Maybe Drake doesn’t “need” the money, but it’s a respect thing. PJ doesn’t need the money either but if we stop paying him…well, 🤷‍♂️.

In fairness, Drake doesn’t have money. His family has money.

Additionally, I agree on Taylor. At this point, he’s a luxury. Can the Gophers fund the positions (OL and DL) they need to fund to be good AND keep him.
