"Pssst: Nearly 10 months after his hiring at Minnesota, football coach Jerry Kill is moving closer to signing his five-year contract. The same for a three-year extension for men's hockey coach Don Lucia. Meanwhile, the Gophers remain in a stalemate over an extension for men's basketball coach Tubby Smith."

Go Gophers!!

Look out. Joel's kicking into high gear now.

Off-topic, but I really hope Maturi is gone before this happens.
It's already done. He has said it's a Brew style deal that is designed to help with recruiting but that will reduce the buyout in case they need to fire him.

"It's a situation where if indeed he were not to be successful and we had to make that kind of decision the buyout isn't 100 percent for the term of the contract," Maturi said. "It's that type of thing. It's very similar to what we did with Tim Brewster. ... We didn't have to buy him out more than had we dismissed him from the initial (contract). There's some security for Don and there's obviously some security for the University of Minnesota."

Told that there would be some boosters who wondered why Lucia was getting a contract extension, Maturi said:

"The extension part comes partly because of the recruiting aspect.

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS?!

He actually said in an interview on public record that the contract is for recruiting? You can set it up that way but the moment you admit it's not real job security for the coach it probably negates any stability it would offer.

WHAT AN IDIOT.

Serious, dead serious question:

Is there some way we can march this POS on the 50 yard line at the Nebraska game ALONE and have a public response of "appreciation" to him? He's always accepting checks and shaking hands with sick kids, nobody will boo the H out of him then. Can Kaler PLEASE do this so he can find out how we all feel about his glorious reign over our beloved gophers athletic dept?

If he's not gone already behind closed doors then something is seriously wrong with the world.

Joel wanted to be Pat Richet but ended up an Ade Sponberg. Ade almost killed the program in Madison but Richter got it corrected.

I've read quotes to that effect. Same was with Brew. Doing the extension way too late, then admitting you made it netural on firing him is totally pointless. Either do the extension quickly and say nothing. Or don't do it at all. Yet another inexplicable move by our fearless leader.
