Per Shooter:

— The Gophers’ Tanner Morgan is ranked as the 38th-best QB for next spring’s NFL draft, per si.com.

— There was a decent chance the Gophers would have been invited to the Quick Lane Bowl had they not defeated Wisconsin in their season finale.

— The average high temperature in New York City on Dec. 29 for the Gophers-Syracuse Pinstripe Bowl is 42 degrees. Average low is 31.

— It looks like the Gophers athletics department, which still owes millions for construction of its Athletes Village and last week increased football coach P.J. Fleck’s salary to $6 million a year, is banking on the Big Ten’s new TV deals that could be worth nearly $90 million per school per year beginning in 2024. Besides Fleck’s pay raise, Gophers defensive coordinator Joe Rossi is going from $800,000 a year to $1.1 million.

— It’s clear the best coaching job Fleck can get is the one he’s got now. His $6 million salary is market value for the job he’s done over six years.

— Despite a 50,805 capacity, the Gophers football team (8-4) didn’t have a single home sellout all season.

Go Gophers!!

38th best QB means if Tanner declares for the NFL, he would not be drafted within the 7 rounds. He’s be lucky if he gets selected and signed as a Free Agent. Maybe not even a practice squad.

Coaching or do something with the PhD that he got from the U would most likely be best for Tanner.

Go Gophers!!
How is someone in a newspaper allowed to write something so incorrect?
The big ten didn’t have enough bowl teams to fill the quicklane bowl.

Guaranteed Rate bowl's payout $1.625 is slightly less than Quick Lane's $2M.

The Big Ten left a small amount of money on the table by filling the GR and leaving the QL unfilled.

Perhaps somehow it would've worked out to leave the GR unfilled and send the Gophers to the QL, if we had lost. Since, indeed, we would not have been allowed to go back to the GR. Wisc to the Pinstripe, then? Not what they would ideally prefer, but the Big Ten would never leave that bowl unfilled with its $4.4M payout.

What’s the payout for the U for doing the Pinstirpe?

Tanners not an NFL guy does not have the characterstics of an NFL QB, been saying it for years

The bowl pays the conferences, regardless which team is there. So the Big Ten and ACC will both get $4.4M from the Pinstripe.
I feel this question comes up multiple times every year...

We couldn't go back to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. But this still doesn't make sense....unless the eight teams in eight years thing with the Pinstripe truly was BS and they would have taken Wisconsin as a repeat over the Gophers.

If the no repeats thing is real, the gophers were in NY or Charlotte win or lose.
Wisconsin was in Charlotte or AZ win or lose
Maryland was in AZ or Charlotte

My guess is, if MN loses to Wisconsin Wisconsin goes to mayonnaise, Minnesota to pinstripe, Maryland to Arizona
But they may have left it exactly is right now based on Mn going to AZ last year

The Big Ten could have left the Guaranteed Rate Bowl empty since the payouts are pretty similar with the Quick Lane. Not saying that would have happened. Shooter's take here may be complete BS.

In all the years of not filling bowl assignments that is always the one not filled. If they sent Minnesota to Detroit and sent nobody to Arizona it almost would’ve been fun to see the metro down on here.

I’m not sure Arizona bowl who has a contract for a big ten team before quicklane would accept not getting Minnesota in exchange for New Mexico State

No idea. Shooter probably just pulling shit out of thin air here.

The wording on that Big Ten bowl document did say something like "Goal is for eight ..." while on others it said "Will ...". So perhaps it was as ironclad.

Shooter's takes in that entire article are just stunningly stupid.
