per Shama:

Don’t be surprised if University of Minnesota alum and former North Stars executive Lou Nanne heads the committee to assist Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague in raising $190 million for new athletic facilities.

Go Gophers!!

This is great news! L.Nanne knows a lot of people also very connected on the business side of things.. Teauge is a smart man.

He was a former North Star player and GM. He is connected to all the big shots in athletics in town. He is also a Gophers rube.

I think you forgot former Gopher. He is not a Gophers rube by accident.

Seems like a good choice. Cares about the school and knows a lot of people.

I guess people who have not lived in the Twin Cities would have no idea who Lou Nanne is, which is a little strange. Anyway, they could not have gotten a better person to lead this committee. Highly respected and knows everyone important in town.

Hasn't he been somewhat involved with the U and fundraising for quite awhile?

Not sure I understand this. Why is this strange?

Great choice. Lou Nanne is a well connected Gopher rube and you probably couldn't get a better schmoozer for the job. I've been to enough events in Mpls and have seen Lou hobnobbing with some big shots in the area to know this is the right guy for the job. The guy can work a room and he is a genuine Gopher fan.

Good choice.

PS: I didn't realize any Gopher fan didn't know Lou Nanne.

Yeah. I am surprised too. He is a big shot. I figured most people on here catch Barreiro every now and then. Nanne is on there all the time.

There are plenty of Gopher fans who didn't grow up in Minnesota, why on earth would I know who he is? The North Stars haven't been around since 1993 (when I was 8)...

Would be an excellent choice by Teague. Lou is a sharp dude, charismatic, and a former Gopher. That's the best possible combo. Would be an easy guy to get behind. He'd be a "big picture" guy and someone who would help bring people together, the anti-Chris Voelz so to speak.

Anyone heard an update on the plan from 3+ months ago to do a fundraising feasibility study? I completed one in 5 seconds or so. ("Not feasible. Crazy-talk.")

Same amount of time you spent on the feasibility of Trevor getting an extra year?

Lou Nanne is very well known in the state. Played for the Gophers, played in the NHL, GM for the North Stars for many years, had a hand in campaigning for Brooks to coach the 1980 Olympics team, inductee to the hockey hall of fame, hockey commentator and long time commentator for the state high school hockey tournament which is a very big deal here. I'm sure that there are plenty of out of state hockey fans that know him, and if you are an in state hockey fans, I would be surprised if you didn't know who he is.

It's no crime to not know him. Just know that he is on a first-name basis with all the higher-ups in the NHL (not that this matters, but somebody knows who he is), is active in the community, appears weekly on Bareemo (as mentioned above), is a huge Gopher fan - very familiar with the entire athletic program - and travels all over the place all the time. Seems very comfortable talking to both Joe Blow and Joe CEO. Comes off as sincere, knowledgeable and approachable.

Good choice, if he's into it. Which I assume he will be.

The people who don't know who Lou Nanne is in this state aren't the ones he'll be hitting up for cash anyways.

I'm glad to hear that this is good news (I have no idea who he is either), but man is this moving at a snail's pace. Teague was hired over 18 months ago and we're just now putting together a committee to help with fundraising? I'll admit I'm a rube in understanding how some of this stuff works, but why weren't we hitting the ground running months (if not a year) ago?

Lou's into sports and business, but not so much music.

He's told this story a few times...

He's sitting in his VIP seats watching a Wild game and the hostess comes over with Glen Frey in tow who then sits next to him. Lou tells Glen where to get a beer and while Glen's gone he asks the hostess, "whos this guy?". She responds, "He's with the Eagles". Lou in turn, "really, the Eagles, doesn't look all that big, what is he, the punter?"

Maybe we have been and this is the first sighn of progress

+1

Louie is such a great choice. Dude is connected x10, and loves the U! I would love to drink some beers with Louie and hear his stories about his playing, coaching and GM days.

SKI U MAH!!
