Per Shama:

University of Minnesota head football coach P.J. Fleck, hired in January of 2017, has received numerous adjustments to his contract over the years and apparently is headed for another revision soon.

School president Dr. Rebecca Cunningham indicated that at a social club gathering in Naples, Florida recently.

Tanick wrote Cunningham “intimated that the school is about to extend Fleck’s contract” which now runs through 2030. Other details weren’t offered but a new extension falls in line with the support Fleck has received from athletics director Mark Coyle who hired him.

Go Gophers!!

Can't complain. Gotta win some more games next year though

Being prepared, I'm sure it's coming
Depends on the nature of the extension. If it is the typical add a year small bump type of extension I doubt there will be much of any griping. If it is something more significant then maybe.

That's pretty much every extension with him.

Check twitter. Lots of complaints already.

I honestly don’t think this as necessary as it used to be.

You used to need a coach to have 4 years left on his deal for more assurance he would be there.

NFL coaching contracts aren’t 6+ years.

I’m sure it’s just a 1-2 year extension with little buyout change but I don’t think it’s necessary anymore in this new era

I suppose the market can make it necessary but

Great! Best class recruiting class ever coming in, no need for change other than a better salary pool for assistants

Agreed. The U shouldn't be afraid that he'll leave. He shouldn't get a raise. In the portal era, supposed stability is meaningless.

Agree. This is pretty much BAU in today's college football landscape.

What about periodically rewarding someone who continues to be modestly successful at a resource deficient program in a conference full of resource heavy programs? Fleck isn't a conference title contender but we've consistently punched above our weight class, even if it isn't to the extent that some here want to see. His teams buy in and perform on the field, they're achieving in the classroom, and they do a ton of community volunteer work. I'm cool with it. It's like a cost of living adjustment where the comparative wages are other coaches within the conference. If a caveat is that some if it has to be spent on improving the coordinator salary pool, even better.

OK Heather it’s good that you chimed in.

Lol otherwise on PJ extension talk coming off a mostly painful to watch season and another shitty bowl game.

I think the assistant coaches are paid at the rate the head coach wants them paid. If they are willing to extend again at this point, I’m sure he has that power.
