Serious Question: Should Northwestern Leave the Big?

I know they've been comepetiive in Football, but they just can't compete in Basketball because of their strict academic requirements. Their roster is seriously undermanned and not up to Div 1 standards. Yeah, I know they've had 2 tough injuries but it was a fluke that they ever got Swopshire for 1 season. That rule allowing transfers when going for a graduate degree has been changed I believe. Tradition has been thrown out the window in recent years, regarding teams moving around like free agents...Wouldn't NW have a better chance at success in Basketball if they left the Big Ten and joined a mid-major? Maybe the Horizon or Summit League would be a good place for them? They could build their way up the way up into a mid-major power in 10 years perhaps.

Watching them play Iowa now, I really feel sorry for Bill Carmody as they fell behind 11-0 after 7 minutes. They just don't have the athletes. I think Carmody has done an amazing job to avoid being 2-16 every year with what he is able to get enrolled there.

I would love to see NW start anew in the Horizon or Summit league. They can stay for Football, but I can't help but think they'll never be competitive in hoops.
What's Minnesota's excuse? So we're better than Northwestern in basketball and Northwestern is better than Minnesota in football. So what?

Why is it not his fault now?

Stanford and Duke seem to do just fine with high academic standards. The Northwestern football team seems to do just fine with high academic standards.

Sounds like accepting mediocrity and making excuses to me. But you would never do that, right?

Duke?

Please. K and program have danced the dance well.

For sher - remember will avery?

Wow, seriously one of the dumber topics I have ever seen posted on this board, and that (unfortunately) is saying something.

Why in the hell should Northwestern leave? They have been a charter member of this conference since 1896, with their academic stature being nothing but a massive credit to the B10, and not to mention athletically, their relative football success. They have actually played in a Rose Bowl in my lifetime (and I am 46 years old), while us, not so much, so if you're going to play that game, maybe it's we who should leave.

Sorry, but just an awful and nonsensical topic.

+1

Aside from the complete idiocy of this thread, I want to know the identity of this imaginary team who plays in the Big East in one sport and the ACC in another.

Your resistence is kinda like the last survivors in the 70's movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" Just futile! Go to the Summit League, beat up on Western Illinois, the Dakotas, build up your stature and confidence and come back to the Big 20 someday. There's no shame in taking a step backwards to wind up in a rosier future.[/QUOTE
Yes. You have overwhelming support on this board I see. Movie? You remind me of DeNiro slowly sinking into the water in "Cape Fear". Again , nice try. Again NO ONE else is buying your drivel. Put your shovel away and get out of the hole.

This is an odd question.

No you don't kick them out. Every conference needs a team like Northwestern.

Should the Big Ten kick Minnesota out of football?

Serious question: Should Moses87 leave GH?

+1. what a stupid thread and premise. NW is a charter member of the B1G. they will always be a member of the B1G. i honestly think the OP is/was just trying to stir the pot and generate some crazy responses.

Moses is a troll, just looking for reactions. Has to be about 15 years old. Should be practicing for the drivers test and posting less.

I never said kick them out...I merely posed a question: "SHOULD NW Leave (on their own accord)? People need to lighten up! It was just a fricken question.

If they go, the gophers should go with them!,,,,
