Seniors next year

Weren't there a lot more younger players starting at the end of the year compared to the beginning of the year? That's my impression but I didn't easily find any good stats on line to verify that thought.

I did notice in my research that in the Iowa game we had more total yards, a bigger time-of-possession and they only converted ONE third down the entire game. How often does that happen and you lose? We did give up one more turnover, which more frequently then not dictates the winner/loser.

In response to CLyde:

I do echo some of your concerns about whether or not Brewster's recruits are being developed, and I think it is somewhat of a fair criticism. It is important to note that some young players go to other programs and produce right away. However, the difference between those programs and Minnesota is that those young players aren't making up the entire team. If you look at the defense...Michael Carter, Keanon Cooper, Wilhite, Edwards, Kirksey, and even Tinsley, all showed flashes of being pretty good young football players who can definitely play at the Big 10 level. However, they had the fortune of getting to play with some quality upperclassmen (Small, Brown, Campbell, Lawrence, Triplett). This allowed these young guys to come in and flash their athleticism, and be PART of the team.

On offense, these young guys were counted on too much to expect too much from them. Our entire offensive line was either young (or in their 1st year/2nd year in the program). McKnight, Green, Stoudamire, Whaley, Eskridge, Gray...were expected to be too much of the entire team (especially after Decker went down). Our young players dominated the depth chart on offense, which helped to make them look like busts.

Like I said, I do understand the point you are trying to make, but I think there is some more reasoning to consider.

We definitely got younger as the season went on. I am not sure exactly how that translated as far as "starters", but...

Fr. Carter took Simmons (Sr) position...
Whaley (Fr) took Bennett's (So) position...
Additionally (especially at Iowa) Tinsley played a significant amount, Cooper was a larger part of our defense, Kirksey and Edwards roles expanded, Bryant Allen saw the field more, McKnight saw the field more...

BTW Pops, I'm hurt you never responded to my PM asking for your thoughts on another topic...I appreciate your insight and don't have the first idea why you've chosen to go after me with name-calling.

first off let me say i did not call you any names i thought part of your comments were asinine
i do not make it a point to call people names or insult them on a personal basis
But i will argue a point vigorously .

My comments were not of a personal nature toward you and i apologize if the wording made it seem so

Now in the game of football when a kid moves from one level to another very seldom do you see that kid jump up to the next level and start much less contribute....

Jumping from High School to college especially big boy football is the equivalent of moving from middle school to starting on the high school varsity team.

As great as Teabow became he did not start as a freshmen he was used like brewster used grey

You are talking about a 17 or 18 year old kid competing with 22 and 23 year old men

I dont know about you but when i was 18 and i was an exceptional 18 year old
and there were guys in my neighborhood who were 22 23 and 24 who i could not beat at marbles
let alone any thing physical

I could Hang and compete but beat no

So you compare that with a 17 and 18 year old competing in a sport at the highest level of college aginst 22 and 23 and 24 year old men who have had the benefit of the best food the best nutritional advice the best work outs with the best equipment3 and 4 hours a day who have a 2 3 or 4 year head start and some kid comes out of his rinky dink high school facility eating pizza after the game on friday night and pop tars for breakfast and then say go take us to a
bcs bowl game

This is the rule not the exception so that is why i find it funny that after two recruiting classes the sentiment is it is time to start over with a new quarter back and a new coaching staff

last example CraigThorpe of Louisville took over a team that was fresh off an orange bowl win
He had arguably the best returning offense in the nation with the likes of carson bush oridea and braum at quarter back, he was handed the keys to a Lamborghini and turned it into an amc gremlin.. he had two recruiting classes and was fired.. if he had taken them back to the orange bowl 2 out of the three years he was there he would still have a job

Brewster inherited a insight bowl team and has returned to the insight bowl twice one year against a tougher scheduel

he has according to the experts up graded the talent{personally i think these kids are great and have played their hearts out} but the point being he has not taken the program down and has returned to the insight bowl twice in three years he has built up the talent with just two recruiting classes and we are still having stupid arguments about nonsensical issues. if the program has regressed and obviously it has not other wise we would be in the pizza bowl or no bowl... then we can have a discussion about contract extensions and decommits and the talent level.... until then want i want for Christmas is for people to allow this team and coaching staff an oppertunity to make us all proud
