The Gophers are no longer part of my NCAA projection, and it will take a miracle of epic proportions to change that. Good luck with that.

What would be the miracle?

( I think we'll lose Weds but humor me anyway ) :)

I just want to see the Gophers win another game. Really. I think we're to the point where it's pointless going over any NCAA scenarios. I'll address the "miracle" if we get anywhere near that point, but I think a couple others here have expressed it pretty well.

The auto-bid. That's the only way this squad is going to the tournament.

The girls BB tournament better get ready to be booted from The Barn.

4 more wins, IMO. NW, PSU, NW/Iowa/IND in BTT and then OSU/Bucky/Pur. At that point we would end up 21-12, 10-11 and an RPI probably in the 40's. That would be a fighting chance.

That's somewhere along the lines of what I thought aside from winning the B10 tourney. Crazier things have happened I guess.

I think we're in the same spot as last year, but we need one less win in the BTT, because the non-conference was better (and there's 68 teams.) It's not impossible if we can avoid having to play OSU. I don't see any way we can beat them. Somehow we have to get lined up with Bucky ideally. I think we can take them out. Beating them and clinching an NCAA birth would go a long way towards salvaging this train wreck.

I agree with you about OSU. That's the only team where I think we'd have no chance whatsoever. The only way we can beat OSU with our current roster is if the Bucks decide they want to get rested up before the NCAA Tournament (decide to take BTT weekend off). Purdue'd probably kill us, too. I think the Boilers are starting to look like a legitimate national title contender.

For the most part we're pretty much locked into the 8-9 game. I think the only scenarios where the Gophers improve to the #7 seed is if we finish in an 8-10 tie for 7th with Penn State (winning tiebreaker by virtue of our win over Purdue, assuming Boilers stay in 2nd place) or if we finish in a 3-way tie at 8-10 with Michigan and Penn State. In addtion to requiring the minor miracle of the Gophers winning their last two, that would require Michigan losing at home to Sparty and Penn State dropping its final two games. Michigan would be #6 (3-1 vs. teams in the tie), the Gophers (2-2) would be #7 and Penn State (1-3) would be #8.

Even if that happens, playing Purdue (if we scrape by the 1st round) certainly would be no picnic.

I keep thinking back to last year when everyone and pretty much anyone didn't give the Gophers a chance in hell of making the tournament. Who knows.

If we win the last two, get the #7 seed, then beat both Purdue and Becky to get to the BTT finals, I can see that being good enough to dance. We'd have 5 wins against the RPI top 25, with 4 of those coming on neutral courts.

If we're in the 8/9 matchup a semifinal win over Illinois/Michigan St. doesn't nearly hold the water as a win over Becky would.

Our best shot to dance is to get to that #7 seed for the BTT.
