After Sunday's 82-69 loss to undefeated Ohio State (no shame in that, the Buckeyes looked every bit the part of its #1 ranking), the Gophers have hit a crossroads in their 2010-11 campaign. There's no dancing around it. Thursday's game vs. Illinois -- another potential "bubbler" -- is absolutely critical, and certainly the result likely will indicate whether or not the Gophers will be a viable at-large candidate on Selection Sunday. As of today, the Gophers remain safely in the NCAA Tournament field. That said, make no mistake about it, if they lose to the Illini, they officially become a bubble team, and for the first time this season their NCAA bid will be in serious peril.

Great breakdown, especially this;

1. Gophers (remaining foes 31-45 in Big Ten) -- Done with Ohio State, Wisconsin and Purdue.
2. Northwestern (32-44) -- @ Wisconsin.
3. Michigan (32-43) -- Wisconsin.
4. Illinois (45-41) -- @ Ohio State, Purdue twice.
5. Michigan State (40-35) -- @ Ohio State, Purdue.
6. Penn State (41-35) -- Ohio State, @ Wisconsin.

There's been a lot of 'discussion' on this board on whether the Gophers are a bubble team or not. Depends on which Gopher team they are referring to.

Gophers with current resume = seemingly solidly in tournament.
Gophers with current roster = ?????????????????????

I think that's very fair. One way or another the Gophers need to find a way to win 4 more games before the Big Ten tourney. It's that simple. Despite our "schedule advantage", it's not going to be easy. On the bright side, there's not a single game remaining on the Gophers' schedule (even without Al) that realistically they can't win. Of course, that works the other way, too. ... there's not a single game where I think the Gophers will blow out their opponent. We're going to be in a lot of tight games from here on out. The Gophers need to develop some "toughness" in these last 7 games.

I think the biggest dissapointment to me was the lack of effort and hussle by many of the players yesterday. Not all but some. Hoff is carrying an awful heavy load right now.

Hoffarber is definitely this team's MVP, no ifs, ands or buts about it. He deserves to end his career in the NCAA Tournament, not the NIT. But like you said, he needs some help.

other than the current state of the roster this is the biggest problem of the sqaud.

not sure where this "toughness" will come from.

Or why it hasn't been there lately.
