EMMITSBURG, Md. – Meghan Andersen tallied a game-high 25 points and the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team led wire-to-wire in picking up their 40th-straight win over a MAAC opponent with an 81-61 victory at Mount St. Mary's. Andersen led a quartet of Stags in double-figures with
Emina Selimovic tallying 17,
Raiana Brown adding 13, and
Kaety L'Amoreaux filling out the stat sheet with 11.
"That's a great road win!" Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "I loved how we took care of the ball against their pressure and played with poise throughout the game. We knew we needed to dig in defensively to win this game and we did just that!"
The Stags (23-3; 17-0 MAAC) also picked up their 12th road win of the season, tying the national lead.
Fairfield, who entered as the MAAC's top offensive team, reached 80 points in a game for the ninth time this season and the fourth time this month.
Andersen was the focal point in the first half with 21 points over the first 20 minutes which featured three 3-pointers. She scored 10-straight for the team to open up a 14-9 lead and gave the squad a double-digit advantage with a layup following a
Sydni Scott triple.
Fairfield found dominance inside in the second quarter with 14 points in the paint. Brown led the Stags with their toughness inside the arc with 10 points during the period. Andersen converted an 'And-1' opportunity to put the score at 33-19 and closed out the half with another 3-pointer.
After the Mount cut their deficit to 12, Izabela Nicoletti-Leite answered with back-to-back 3-pointers and L'Amoreaux drove in for a lay-up to force a Mount timeout.
Selimovic and the Stags withheld any idea of a Mount comeback with Selimovic tallying 11 points in the fourth quarter as the Stags led by as many as 20 in the final period.
Andersen led the Stags with 25 points while going 4-for-11 from deep. Selimovic had her third-straight double-digit game with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting. She also led the Stags on the boards with a season-high nine rebounds. All 10 players who entered the game for Fairfield grabbed at least one rebound with the team tallying 46, the most in a game this season.
L'Amoreaux once again filled out the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Nicoletti-Leite dished out five assists without a turnover, improving her 3.17 assist-turnover ratio which had ranked in the top-five nationally.
With the win, the Stags will have a chance to clinch at least a share of the MAAC Regular Season title when they host Sacred Heart at Leo D. Mahoney on Saturday night at 7pm.
