Season All But Over Now!

Ralph deserves not only to be thrown under the bus, but have the bus back up and run over him two or three times -- his lack of effort is embarassing. That being said, Tubby has not recruited any outside shooters for this team in five years. Lack of talent is one thing, but he's the guy bringing in the talent we have. Where does the buck stop if not on Tubby?

Tubby recruited both Paul Jesperson and josh oglesby. He is also recruiting Matt Thomas now (it is UW who stopped recruiting him, not Minnesota from a prior post) signed any? No. But it's not like he's never tried.

Also, to a prior post (not you). If we get another open scholly I hope it goes to Woodard or Philip Nolan. Both would be a nice get. And Colton didn't transfer because of tubby, he was a senior who wasn't going to start. Plain and simple reason.

If you think Tubby wasn't a major part of Iverson's reason to transfer, if not the main reason, (or Joseph's, or Cobb's, or White's, etc.), I have a rock on the moon I'd like to sell you.

You infer Colton was upset with playing time...who is the sole person responsible for deciding playing time on our team? The head coach. Who is our head coach? Tubby Smith.

Okay, I can give you that. I meant I don't think it was because he thought tubby was Satan, like people say is the reason Cobbs and devoe left.

White always said he loved tubby, personally, I believe him and think he transferred due to maturi keeping him suspended.

Tubby calls out players in the media all of the time. You do not have to coddle players, but to name them in press conferences as reasons for a loss is ridiculous.

Can you show of one time where Tubby has said "so and so lost the game for us?"

It seems everyone has a different definition of "throw under the bus". Mentioning Ralph didn't do this well or that well doesn't mean he's saying he cost us the game. And generally when you "throw someone under the bus" you do it for personal gain. What would Tubby have to gain from his comments? Ultimately he is the guy who recruited and is coaching the players.

We're all frustrated, some can't stand Tubby and think he should be fired immediately. That's fine. But it's starting to get to be just like it was the last year or so of Brewster in football. Some wanted him gone so badly that they criticized everything he did. If he smiled a certain way, someone would find something wrong with it.

Some might find it interesting that the Gophers have now lost 3 times as favorites this season (neutral Dayton, home Iowa, home Purdue) and have not won a game as an underdog (away Illinios, away Michigan). The early talk of Tubby doing a "great" coaching job was unfounded before we found a way to lose to Iowa at home and then schooled by Purdue. I think most people realized the season was "over" when the Gophers lost to Iowa at home in a must win situation, at least I hope they did. Today's game was less frustrating for me than any loss this season only because I no longer felt like the Gophers were competing for an NCAA bid.

UW is now recruiting Thomas.Maybe we can beat them out like we did for Bostick and Ellerson. lol

I actually am bothered by Tubby and his "calling out" players. There are better ways to go about it imo.

From the press conference:

When you're 0-4 and you haven't won a game in the Big Ten for forever, it's tough. Confidence is so fragile. I don't think we lack confidence, I think they genuinely enjoy eachother, they work extremely hard. You look at missing a dunk, and that could cut it to 7 or 9. Getting stronger, getting more mature. It's all about us, especially myself, telling them we believe they can win in the Big 10.

On not being to tough on the team: I've been very passive with them…when you're losing. It's a great group of kids, they've done everything I've asked them to do. I couldn't ask for a better group of kids on and off the court.

" And Colton didn't transfer because of tubby, he was a senior who wasn't going to start. Plain and simple reason." And if Iverson had stayed at UM, would he have started by now given what we've seen? Should he have?

Very good point. The mark of a well coached team is that they find ways to win ones they should lose more often then they lose ones they should win.
