SDSU’s Jimmy Rogers to Washington State

That move right there is why it was so strange that the NDSU coach went NDSU>USC assistant > Fresno state HC

I would think he could’ve just landed a better job than Fresno right from NDSU

Well Washington State is no longer a power conference member so perhaps it’s all about even?

Fresno = Pullman?

I have to think that Washington state has better resources than Fresno, but I don’t know for certain

But even so, it seems like enz didn’t need to go to USC to land the Fresno job

I'd much rather live in Pullman than in Fresno, but yea. They're pretty similar jobs football wise

Wazzu has the PAC wind fall. That pot has been diminished with the MWC buyouts. I assume, though, that the new revenue realities of the PAC. Reportedly, Montana State's Brent Vigen was first choice and asking $2.3 million per and higher staff salaries.

I think Entz took the best job available to him to get out of town before he was run out of town.

Washington State is about 1/3 larger than Fresno State with very loyal fans. I would think the Cougs have deeper pockets and more NIL than the Bulldogs.

I might be wrong about this, sorry if so, but wasn't Entz the one who was "run out of town" for poor performance at the end?

He was 60-11 with 2 national titles and never finished worse than 7th in the county

In 5 seasons he was national champs twice
Runner up once
Round of 4 once
Round of 8 Once…he won a national title after his round of 8 season

His round of 8 season was the spring season During Covid. If you exclude that season he was 53-8 and never did worse than the national semifinals

His last year they finished ranked 3 and were in the national semifinals

Who was running him out of town?

Yeah I get it’s not what it was 3 years ago. But it is still a better job than Fresno I would think

Could be true they’re equal
So I don’t think he had to go to USC to settle on the Fresno job. Could’ve gotten that direct from NDSU

He could have but I think he also made more money at USC than he did in Fargo with less responsibility

Not saying I agree with it, but his last two seasons at NDSU (2022 and 2023) he lost to SDSU the last three times he faced them, and in 23 he even lost to UND and USD (although he did beat USD in the playoffs).

Maybe there was other stuff behind the scenes. I don't pretend to know, just thought I remembered something about fans getting restless with him. I could be making that up

If the fanbase got restless with a guy who won 2 national titles in 4 non Covid seasons and was in the championship game a third time with a semifinal appearance the other one…they’re dumber than I thought.

But then again NDSU fans are a little crazy. It would be crazy if he was on the hotseat.

Can't blame Rogers for striking while the iron is hot. Can he build a program though? He took over a well oiled machine coming off of a national championship and returning most of their players.

SDSU took a small step back this year, and may take a larger step back next year. I also heard Rogers was a DC candidate for the Gophers before PJ went with Hetherman.

Good job for him.
Other thing that happened in the Dakota dynamic is NdSu was hit hard by the portal and the SDSU kids all stayed. But that group that stayed is gone and now this next batch of SDSU kids seem to be hitting the portal.

The thing that put SDSU over the top of NDSU for a few years here is they didn’t get hit in the portal as hard but it seems like it is balancing out now.

You are inputing rational thought on an irrational fanbase. Things weren't rosy in Fargo for him.

Lost 5 straight to SDSU.

All NDSU has to do is beat the other Dakota schools and the Montana schools ... and they get a national championship trophy.

Talk about a dilapidated division of college football!

and now the SDSU QB - Mark Gronowski - is going into the portal.

I am not making this up - one site listed possible destinations including........................Iowa.

I've watched several SDSU games. Gronowski is a bigger, stronger version of Trey Lance - a solid dual-threat QB at the FCS level, but I'm not sure he has the accuracy to succeed at a higher level when facing better defenses.

How’s that any different than Georgia and Alabama trading national championships for the better part of a decade?

Lost 5 straight to SDSU.
2019 beat them- perfect season and a national title
2020 is a fake season (1 loss)
2021 lost but went 14-1 and won a national title (2 loss)
2022 lost twice to them (4 losses) but finished 12-3 and 2nd in country. 3 losses were to 14-1 national champ twice (their lone loss was at Iowa by 4) and to Arizona
2023 (5th loss). Had a rough year but avenged one of their regular season losses and Finished 3rd in FCS, lost in semifinal.

2024 roster he built goes to national title game.

I get people were frustrated maybe but it’s like if Georgia fired smart because they lost to bama a few times.

When he returned he said '24 was his last in Brookings. Ideally, he wants to get drafted. I'm not sure that was the best option for those aspirations. He was exposed this year as a good, not great QB after losing two offensive starters to the draft, another as a free agent signing and two more who were on training camp rosters. Realistically though, he'll make more money at an FBS school now than he will as a late round or free agent signee. He's been touted as the top portal QB presently but that speaks more to the QB talent in the portal than it does for Gronowski. Great kid though. I hope he does well. Just don't see it though.

Again, you are trying to impute rational thought on irrational people.
