Scrap the 3 - guard... its not working

Allen needs minutes period.

How can you say that? I am sure if he would be a huge asset to the team Tubby would give him SOME playing time.

Also, the idea of not playing Hoffarber a fair amount is downright silly. Yes, lets sit one of the best distance shooters in the country so we can start Bryant Allen (a freshman on a football scholarship who has played a total of 1 minute this year or so) in his place.

Rick - You are a tremendous asset to the board. However, in the past months it seems as though every post you make - other than the pick the score posts- is merely an evaluation of another poster's intelligence or lack of it.
I disagree regarding the characterization of my posts but certainly agree on the issue of being an asset ... ;) . While I've questioned the motives behind a poster's contributions or the lack of intelligent thought expressed within the post (as in this case), I don't recall often calling the poster's overall intelligence into question.

The problem that I see with some of our newer posters is the lack of any significant thought or judgement and a rush to making fairly outlandish suggestions. Allen as a starter? Kid's just recently suited up and played a whopping minute or two -- truly a bizarre suggestion IMO. (And golly, I pass right by a fair number of other truly bizarre posts without comment.)

I do take issue with those who call for firing Maturi because of the handling of the White and Mbakwe cases. And in taking issue, I often believe those folks are placing the short-term above other interests. But I don't recall calling their intelligence into question for expressing that opinion ... just their values. And I've pointed out that a trial court judge has found probable cause and the prosecution has decided to go forward with the charges. That's not to say Mbakwe is guilty but it validates the decision to keep him suspended from the team until the case is resolved -- regardless of whether the Gophers are winning or losing.

One exception: Millions2Spare has shown a stunning lack of coherence and communication skills. How much of it is an act versus true ignorance is hard to say but I've pretty much concluded on the latter.

He's still our second leading scorer and helps space the floor. Yeah, it would be nice if he was more athletic and could create his own shot, but it's also not his fault that we suck at settings screens for him. Either way we're better with him on the floor.

my point is a 'quick release' guy should have no problem scoring.. esp against a D like NW.. Rautins, Diebler, Reddick, etc need an instant within 25'... then they might head-fake you and get 3 FTs... or head-fake and put the ball on the floor.. Hoff is not in this league.

dboy is always good to keep things interesting. This year is in the books basically.

Top players for next year?

The Hoff? - If you aren't committed to setting picks for him, he's a specialist. I'd love to see him 10-15/game with about 5-8 looks. The rest of his game isn't strong enough to justify the minutes he plays.

Williams? He can't feed the post, he can't create his own shot and looks lost defensively. Looks great in the open floor and in transition. I wanted a redshirt for him this year and his playing like he needed one.

Iverson? I really love his heart but as has been noted here numerous times his footwork is just horrible. No creativity in the post and with his lift that has to be a focus during the next summer if he's back.

Sampson? Just has to find intensity? Ever watch the old man? He wasn't exactly Bill Laimbeer either.

Joseph? - Lazy passes and weak with the ball at the worst possible time. Has to stay so his brother might come here though. Slides to the 2 and it'll work.

Eliason? No way he comes in and makes a big contribution as a frosh. Not physical enough.

Cobbs? - Might be okay with another year under his belt. Can handle the ball so we'll see.

Just curious, where does the "toxic immature" quote come from? I can not find it in this thread. Is this from some past pie fight?

The idea of scrapping the 3 guard lineup may not be a bad one but I have to say the idea of this as a starting line-up is at best provocative and at worst laughable. The laughability reasons have already been listed throughout the thread.

go with Allen / Westbrook / Carter / Rodney / Johnson. run baby, run!

Seriously, Allen, Carter, and Rodney for Hoff, Sampson, and Devoe?

:D

I can see the nuance was lost on you. It's not the number of posts in total ... it's how you arrive at that number of posts. It's kinda like having a "quick release" and not scoring until late in the game: two different things. (And you can enjoy the double entendre if that hasn't escaped you)

Initiating a thread that is outlandish and sure to spark responses ... so you can then reply to the responses ... is being a post whore. (or if you prefer: being a troll)

then go ahead.. give us #10,001... enlighten all us commoners or are we 'too toxic and immature' <<< classic!
I'm glad you find it "classic" -- I liked it but wasn't sure some of the folks would grasp it.

You might not be too toxic ... but the "immature" part seems spot on, dboy.
My name is baller and I am a dumbass. {Hi baller.} I proposed benching our 2nd leading scorer, our 3rd leading rebounder, our best passer and the leading 3 point shooter in the country. He clearly has a slow release since he missed his first 5 shots in one game this year, even though he has dozens of makes with someone right in his face. I will stick to this anti-Hoff tact since, a) it gets people going and, as mentioned b) I am a dumbass. In his place I suggested a one minute per year football player, who, at best, should have been redshirted or at worst will never contribute significantly.

How is that translation, baller? (I suppose I could have said something about Wisconsin sucking even though they have been to how many NCAA tournaments in a row and even made some noise there and we haven't done jack since 1997. I could have posted this in a stream of 5 different posts too, but alas.)

jake, i'm still waiting for you on the KG rebounding question...

waiting..
waiting..
thought so.

when Rick M speaks of newbies being 'toxic and immature' i think we now have a clue who he's talking about.

why is Allen/Carter/Rodney for Hoff/Sampson/Devoe so bad???

Allen/Carter/Rodney: better D, better athletes, better rebounders. Allen brings football toughness.

Hoff/Sampson/Devoe: better shooters ( if they can get open ), ????

I know i'm beating a dead horse here and making the old guard and the Hoff lovers upset, but Hoff/Sampson/Devoe has been tried and it does not work.... and will never work..

My quote and from this post that started a thread ... no pie fight involved when I posted it. (Les tried to make it into one but failed.)

In a nutshell...

As others have said, benching the best 3 shooter in the conference for either Allen, who has not yet broken a sweat in a game, or Rodney who is still a freshman trying to figure stuff out, is over the top, IMHO.

Hoff may not be what you want him to be but I do not see a better option on the current Gopher squad.

Devoe is a 2 forced to play the 1 and I think he is doing well considering the total team situation. You are suggesting we put a guy at the point who has yet to start a game and has practiced with the team for a few weeks!

RSIII is our only meaningful size and should be on the floor as much as possible.

That being said I do believe Carter deserves more minutes.

I visited with dboy's psychiatrist today. dboy's doctor told him to stop wasting time in the doctor's office spewing bull$hit and go the GopherHole, start a new thread and spew his bull$hit there to people who really care about him. :banghead:

If you have to ask that question you just don't get it. And what is the football toughness supposed to do?

if you have to ask about football toughness, then you really dont get it..

devoe stripped in the backcourt in OT.. then just watches the guy drive in for a layup.. then shrugs his shoulders..

Allen steps in and takes the charge.
no basket.

anything else you're confused about just ask.

this team is 'soft'... do i need to define 'soft'? 'team'? let me know.

so only questioning 'football toughness' means you concede 'better D, better athletes, better rebounders'...

so what is the confusion here? seems like you agree with me. why the hate?
