we don't have the athletes to run the 3-guard.

instead, go with Allen / Westbrook / Carter / Rodney / Johnson. run baby, run!

You can't have two slow footed 2's on the floor at the same which is what we have with Hoff/Devoe

I know this board loves Hoff... sorry, he needs to sit. d1 touch, d3 speed on the release, pony league feet. Devoe? d1a touch, d2 speed, d2 feet.

Probably the most ridiculous post I've read all day, and there have been some doozies.

Let me get this straight: sit our 2nd leading scorer, the guy who leads the nation in 3-point shooting, and probably the only one on the team that can actually make the right pass at the right time (leading our team in minutes this year, and I don't know where you get the release bit, but he has the fastest release on the team, and it's not even close).

But instead we should play: a player that has played with the team for just over a month, has not played 2 minutes of collegiate basketball, and in that minute, has a couple of turnovers. A post that physically has missed more layups than a 3rd grade girls Park & Rec team who can't guard anyone if his life depended on it (see Sims last game, among many other examples), another kid that has looked like a deer in headlights for 98% of the season.

If you were our coach, we'd be 0-24 at this point, not 14-10.

Hoff has a plenty quick release, and he can get it off with a hand in his face, so I don't think that's an issue at all. If you don't understand the game of basketball, then it's easy to think that shooting is the only thing that Hoff contributes to the team, but I think most of us know that is false. He wouldn't get the minutes that he does if that were the case.

Hoff has a good feel for the game so he's going to get a few rebounds/assists over 40 minutes. but it's bottom-feeding stats.. he cant shoot in traffic and he can't shoot over anyone.. which limits the offense and we end up a man short on D.

i put the five best athletes on the floor to rebound and play shutdown D.
you play two slow-footed 2's... neither of which can 1.) get to the rim. 2.) play D 3.) beat an old man off the dribble.

and neither of which will step in and take a charge in OT when they turn the ball over in the back court.

did i mention heartless?

we win, 55 - 49.

yeah that idea isn't even logical. Devoe D-2? I don't think so.

if you think Devoe is a solid D1 athlete you haven't watched hoops very long.

and can Hoff even dunk? seriously... if you can't dunk it means you have no explosiveness in your legs... ie. can't beat anyone off the dribble, cant play D, etc..

why do you think the NFL holds combines?

so the love affairs with local kids get washed away with V-jumps and 40s.

And with that, you've proven the extent of your basketball expertise.

I just wish we had a team full of athletic dunkers who are explosive, because God knows that's how you win basketball games.

Just look at Wisconsin, BYU, New Mexico, Butler, Northern Iowa, Vanderbilt, Baylor, Cornell even = all teams ranked in the Top 25 in the country and loaded with freak athletes who can all dunk.

Er...wait.

P.S. Throwing the "heartless" claim out there for Hoffarber is just plain incorrect; I've never seen him shy away from a charge, not run down the court on a hustle play (like when he ran down to catch Nash on the breakaway today), refuse to get on the floor, or box out much bigger guys than himself (he's our 3rd leading rebounder usually boxing out a guy 2-3 inches taller than himself at the 3 position).

SGL, you are talking about Allen I think... This is interesting cuz Allen got a TO at OSU when he was in for 1 minute. He took the ball down, passed to Hoff, who then shot and missed. OSU then ran the clock out. Yet in every boxscore, he got a TO. I don't know where it came from, especially the couple you are talking about. Just kind of funny. I do agree though that a guy with 2 minutes all year is probably not our solution at PG.

Just Googling Hoffarber I came up with 3 shots of him fighting on the floor with guys that outweigh him by 20-30 lbs and 3-4 inches while others are in the background watching. "Heartless?"

Allen in the line up is a joke. He hasnt played more than a few minutes of D1 basketball.

FYI Westbrook cant rebound or play D.

Blake is heartless? Devoe is heartless? Where do you get this info?

You think Johnson can rebound? He averages about the same amount of rebounds/game as Hoffarber.

If you think we win todays game with that lineup thats sad.

Just my opinion.

I took the liberty to change your original post (shown above here), <b>baller</b>, so it now makes more sense.

Is this a serious thread? Hoffarber has one of the quickest releases in the Big Ten. I won't even comment on that lineup.

these photos show over-the-top drama... ( flops )...
btw, it was Devoe that didn't step in for the charge in OT.. on his own lame pass.

imho, Hoff should be getting 5 - 15 minutes... he should be coming in to mix up the offense... to provide a flurry of 3's..

he is not Diebler
he is not Andy Rautins.

they have high, quick releases.. they can come off screens left or right... and they are better athletes..

btw.. that third photo.. he's dropping to his butt.. then reaching... with eyes closed.
what would be impressive would be a head-first dive into the pile.

did he finally make a three 39 minutes into the game.
quick?

thats like having the best rebounder in the NCAA finally pick off a missed FT 39 minutes into the game!

i thought tubby was going to "shake things up"..
he parades out the same lame garbage.
hoff and devoe running thru sand.. into the wind.. with boots on.. God they are slow.

'took the ball down'..
already an improvement..

obvious you haven't seen Baylor play..
anyway.
should we take bets on how many of those teams make the FF???
i thought not.

maybe Jake can make more sense of this...
jake? translate this for me!
fetch!

At some point you have to start playing your best players. Carter has been the most productive player on the team the last three games. How do you not start him. He gets 18 minutes and goes 5-8 and 13 points in those minutes. Time for Carter to start. The three guards can rotate starting, playing time.

Hoff can shoot the ball, but he doesn't look like a D-I player anytime the opposition elects to clamp down on him and deny him.

All this team of role players needs is a true horse in the lane and a go-to scorer. But they've needed those for years.

Hoff playing an average of 10 min/game? The idea is laughable.

I'm sure you would get plenty of thank-you notes from the other coaches in the Big 10. They would love it if his minutes were reduced.

The problem is that BH is not being utilized the same way that guys like Diebler and Rautins are. He needs to be freed up with screens. Instead we are hoping the defense sags off him for a split-second so he can get a shot off.

BTW - it also helps when you have great players who can take some of the focus away from a guy like Hoff offensively(Turner for OSU, Johnson for SU).

You were talking about how quick his release is... not how long it takes for him to score his first points... in one game...

agree 100%... but if they can't free him up, he needs to sit.

my point is a 'quick release' guy should have no problem scoring.. esp against a D like NW.. Rautins, Diebler, Reddick, etc need an instant within 25'... then they might head-fake you and get 3 FTs... or head-fake and put the ball on the floor.. Hoff is not in this league.

at least i'm only 100+ posts into my GH career.. no ulcer yet.
i pity the 1,000+ boys..
the 4,000+ players were here during Monson so they know not to stick their heads up too high.

I have >1000 posts under my own name and >9000 posts under my former moniker. Most of us who have been here a while understand it's one thing to be a fool and another to display it for all the world to see, such as your original post.

Most of us also know how to spot a board whore. They're the ones who start a thread with a silly post and then write 12 more (at last count) in replying to the responses to the first <s>troll</s> post. Congrats on your distinction.

Rick - You are a tremendous asset to the board. However, in the past months it seems as though every post you make - other than the pick the score posts- is merely an evaluation of another poster's intelligence or lack of it.
