Per Chip:

Voting for Big Ten postseason awards in men’s basketball, including Coach of the Year, takes place this week. If voters look deeper than records, Gophers coach Niko Medved deserves consideration for that honor.

Coach of the Year awards typically go to the leader of teams with impressive records for obvious reasons. There are certainly worthy candidates in the Big Ten this season, namely Michigan’s Dusty May and Nebraska’s Fred Hoiberg, two frontrunners for the award.

The Gophers have a losing overall record (14-15) and a losing Big Ten record (7-11). You also won’t find a better coaching job this year, next year or any year than what Medved is doing in his first season in Dinkytown.

The Gophers rotation could fit inside a Prius.

Go Gophers!!
