Scoggins: After ‘weird’ year, Niko Medved is building momentum with Gophers men’s basketball

Crowds at the Barn grew as the season progressed. Some of the apathy attached to the program began to erode. Fans appreciated the scrappy effort and Medved’s coaching style that emphasizes ball movement, cutting, screening and unselfishness. The Gophers finished No. 1 nationally in assist percentage rate, recording an assist on 71% of their made field goals. Medved loves that statistic.

“I feel really good about the program and the direction it’s going,” he said. “I think there is some momentum. We’ve got to find a way to build on that.”
