Not what you're looking for but here it goes...

With the Cornhuskers coming to town this Saturday, I see this as the opposite of hate week. The Nebraska fans are tremendous to visiting fans and I hope we can reciprocate their hospitality. I really think we have a chance to develop a great “friendly” rivalry with them.

If you are questioning why you should be nice to the Huskers well consider this, they despise the hogeyes and skunks as much as we do. This alone is a good enough reason to befriend them. We will always have the skunks and hogeyes to justifiably heap trash on so save your venom for those despicable SOB's.

Let’s have fun with our Cornhuskers friends and treat them to a good time the same way they do when we come to Lincoln. If you’re tailgating, offer those red clad fans a beer and perhaps a bite to eat. While you’re at the game, thank them for coming and let them know you appreciate their traveling all the way to our great campus and stadium.

And yes, let’s beat the Huskers while they here but as Ron Burgundy would say, you stay classy, Minnesota.

friendly rivalry=one sided rivalry, since the inferior team is no real threat to beat them the fans feel less threatened by them whereas if it is an equal rivalry there is plenty of hatred for the other side, and BTW Iowa and Wisconsin both hate each other and have a passionate rivalry with a trophy between the 2 but that doesn't mean we should like one team just because it hates the other, it is more of a three-way, a free for all with us all having trophy games with each other

There are plenty of opportunities to trash a$$holes from iowa and wiscy. Folks that are ardent fans of their team but are respectful of the opposing team deserve the same in return. I was at the OSU game in 2000 (live there now, unfortunately) which we won and was pleasantly surprised by the kind comments and general respectful behavior on the part of the adults. Some of the Dumb $hit students before the game were another story but definitely in the minority and pretty much non-existent after the game. So lets be classy. We all want our favorites to do well no matter what team we're pulling for.

One nice thing would be that that at last years game I had a great experience, real nice people but as others say I only think its because they pitied me and we're no threat to them in their minds. I live in the tri-state area of SD, NE, and IA. :( So I know both fan bases very well, Iowa fans are arrogant assholes like most of us already know. As where 80% of NE fans that I know didn't know the Gophers existed until NE joined the B1G, so most are equally as arrogant minus the assholeness...Ive noticed NE fans are stuck in 1991, when they were dominating the world with the option run, they expect 11-13 wins a year.

Nebraska's speed limits are set high for quicker exit from the State. :cheer:

Nebraska is home to the awe-inspiring attraction that is Carhenge. I have witnessed this unnatural wonder with my own eyes.

They are nice to us as long as we keep losing to them. We are the antidote to the Hogeyes.

I attended a Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder conference once and it was a riot.

Go Gophers!!

Maybe friendly rivalry isn't the right way to put it, but Nebraska and Oklahoma had a non-hateful rivalry in the old Big 8; it was, if not friendly, than full of respect on both sides. And while Oklahoma won the majority, it wasn't one-sided.
By contrast, Nebraska and Colorado folk hate each other -- that's a spiteful rivalry. And it *was* one-sided.

The Nebraska - Oklahoma rivalry is what I miss most about our move to the B1G (although, to be fair, that rivalry was basically on life support ever since our teams were split into separate divisions in the Big 12). I'd love for a rivalry of similar feel to Nebraska-Oklahoma to come about, but it's something that can't be forced.

I imagine that UW and Nebraska will form a rivalry naturally, especially once the new divisions are aligned. If that happens, I hope you destroy them. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Hello friend.

Go Gophers!!

The hot chick on the Big Bang Theory is from Nebraska on the show.

Very civilized state that manages to be modern and successful without a lot of taxes and government - modern but traditional. Great football fans. In fact, I like all Nebraskans except Dr. Tom.

It has the largest porch swing in the world which is located in Hebron, Nebraska. It can seat 25 regular sized adults. It will only seat 8 or 9 Iowans.

You know it. I said in a previous post I'd champion this idea and probably did so more than needed. Long story short, Nebraska fans have developed a great culture of being kind to visiting fans. I know a lot of people of this board think that is because they own us but that simply is not true. They do it all the time with other teams, good and bad. I've attended the College World Series many times and the local fans go out of their way to make nice with visitors. I realize people who have not been to Lincoln or Omaha will conjure up all sorts of reasons for not buying it but ask anyone who has been there and most will tell you the same thing I'm saying. Penn State fans are good that way too but Nebraska fans bring it to a whole different level.

That's what I mourn, too. That was one of the great rivalries in the universe. My dad was a big Oklahoma fan (not sure why and I never asked him), and he always put down the Huskers and Osborne when he had the chance.

Go to a Missouri Board and ask them about that.
