I was able to see Coach Kill speak at a conference today. Impressed with him as he can tie coaching and leadership into any subject. He took some questions from the audience.

Talked about the 8 teams battling for off-field success right now. He said he was surprized by 1-2 of the leaders that were picked by the players. The teams battle for the Rose Bowl and Capital One Bowl. Said that one team had a 3 point lead and had a player let them down (-4 points) and they missed one of the bowls due to it. Competition in any organization is good.

Thinks that 70% kids get it now and about 10% did at this time last year.

He was asked about the AD position and what qualities he thought were important. #1 was money and working with the business community. He mentioned Oregon and Oklahoma St. Also said he was an AD at the division 2 level and the job has changed dramatically.

He talked about loyalty with his assistants and actually called them Head Coaches. Said two of them has opportunities to leave this off-season and chose to stay. Continued that his assistants strengths are his weaknesses.

He talked about recruiting and that they have a good start on 2013. He explained that you have to get the kids from MN to want to be Gophers, but that it is not a good fit for all. Some kids want to get away and be on there own and that is not a bad thing.

Kill continues to impress with his being open and consistant. He gave the start date for Spring Ball and invited everyone out to watch them interact with the players in practice to learn more about what they are trying to accomplish.
