scout board blowing up with UW fans claiming that there are legs to sarkisian considering the gopher job. i think that this smells a little too much like brewster to kanas.

Not really a fan. He has one of the best quarterbacks in the country at the helm and has gone out the past three weeks and been outscored 138-30 (albeit three losses to ranked teams).

I would agree. I believe he is only two years into the job at Washington & it is his first HC gig. I think a lot of coaches who are meeting or exceeding expectations at the current spot will float their name for the U of M job (not the Colorado job) in order to get a pay raise. It has been state that MN has the ability to pay and that they seem intent to get a winner.

If he is a serious about the Gopher job (which I doubt) I only wonder how long he would stay here.

I think they have been pretty happy with him in Washington, no? And, Locker has been hurt so it is tough to blame the lack of production on the coach not taking advantage of the kid's talent, when the kid has been in street clothes.

Either way, despite Locker, Washington had the same improvement curve the Gophers currently have and it seems they are overall on track.

I understand he didn't recruit Locker, but should it really be held against him that he happens to have a great quarterback?

One that hasn't been able to stay healthy and if he had him things might be a little different.

I suppose this could be the 'name not cirulating' Maturi referred to. Not sure how I feel about it. High upside, but low downside, IMO. I'd feel better if UW wasn't his first HC gig.

Locker was injured during the Stanford game on 10/30 and was out for the Oregon game (the third of those three beatdowns). They actually scored more points with him out of the game against Oregon (16) than they did in the two previous games combined (14).

That said, Sarkisian took over an 0-12 team, had them at 5-7 (4-5) last year, and has them poised for a similar fate this year at 3-6 (2-4). Back-to-back 5-7 seasons, and losing games by an average of 26.5 in year two doesn't get me too excited, but he did pull them out of epic bad in quick order.

Thanks for the links.

This is a name I had never considered, so it will take some pondering before I reach a conclusion.

Geez, a lot of folks on the husky half brains site seem to think this is a done deal and will be announced on Monday.

I don't think it would be Monday. They have 3 games left.

If he is hired, I don't know how I would feel he seems unproven. Either way their better be major problems (not of his making) at UW for him to bolt there so quickly for here.

From what I can piece together, Husky stadium is in dire need of repair and Sarkisian can't get the money for it. To compound matters, there is talk of moving Husky football to Quest Field:

Sarkisian might want out.

He would have known about the problem with the stadium when he took the job. He can't be shocked that in this economic environment it is tough to raise major money for repair of an Athletic facility. I would think that playing at Qwest field would not be a permanent solution. All of which he knew and was probably discussed before he took the job. He has done a decent job improving their team, but I think he would bolt here just as quickly, after results that were just as mediocre.

Catholic, not mormon, i like it.

I assume that people will jump to the conclusion that he played for BYU so he must be Mormon just like Jim McMahon. (tongue in cheek)

Anyway religion aside it does seem like he was able to turn around the garbage he was given at Wash. He'd be an interesting hire. He is very young in comparison to some of the other prospects, if willing to stay around here for a while that could be a good thing.

Not exactly the splash I was expecting out of Maturi's "i'm surprised this dude was interested in us" commentary though.

According to a lot of the WASH threads the stadium issue there is part of his desire to head for the hills.

Also isn't one of Joe Montana's sons committed to WASH with him? If so, and we get him, that would be some good national pub for our little program.

2-0 versus USC. That would give us some hope for the 2011 Opener!

I guess because it would be the 7th loss if they lose, that he would just leave early? Still say this is most likely nothing, but they certainly have multiple threads on it and seem resigned to it for some reason. But we were frantically tracking flights from MSP to CHO as well, so we can't point fingers.

Hoke and Steve S both fail the winning overall litmus test.

How much stock do I put in that comment from Bruininks....quite a bit.

Now if we can't get that...one of these guys could be the pick.

Not really excited about this guy.

I think showing marked improvement at a program would pass the winning overall litmus test, especially with a coach such as Sarkisian (who doesn't really excite me). He took over a terrible team and has a close to .500 record in two years in a BCS - AQ conference that is no worse than the 3rd toughest in the nation. It is also a conference that has 9 conference games each year (one more than most others), although I will concede that Washington State is a cream puff even though it is their rivalry game.

The reality is that outside of probably 4 coaches (who are all longshots) the coach hired isn't going to excited the entire season ticket buying fan base.

By far, my #1 concern would be his level of involvement/knowledge of the shenanigans that were going on at USC under Pete Carroll.

I'd rather have an honest loser than a crooked winner.

For all anyone knows, he is not even on the radar. As far as I can tell, most of the people listed probably did get some sort of call to gauge interest and get info, but to say any of them are at the top of the list right now is pure speculation.

I suspect their top target(s) are actively coaching right now so they cannot let any info out. Yes, that is speculation on my part as well.

During Bush's time there Sakisian was only the QB coach and wasn't there in 2004. He wasn't the OC until 2007. There wasn't any mention of him during the NCAA findings ( I believe it was the running backs coach). Cheating wouldn't be a concern for me with him. I would be more concerned about ability to recruit as a HC (don't know how his 2+ classes have ranked at UW), ability to develop players that aren't highly regarded recruits, and ability to manage the defensive side of the ball.

I doubt Sarkisian was involved too much in the problems at USC, he got into a little bit of trouble this year for blasting Reggie Bush for those shenanigans.

My biggest problem is that his team isn't much better this season than our Gophers. They will probably win 4 games this season to our 2. I am not saying that I have a huge problem with him as a coach, I am just saying there is absolutely zero evidence that he can win in the PAC 10, I don't see why he would be too appealing when you can't call his 1st job a success.

Another thing, I have a feeling this is a message board ruse just to see how many people buy into it. It actually used to happen all the time on ESPN, they started a rumor about Olberman dying that was reported on by the general media and tons of sports talk that eventually ended up in the mainstream media.

I only say this because I read a couple people write about a "ruse" or made it seem like this whole thing was a joke.

Bingo! This doesn't smell right. It seems like a handful of UDub people are pushing this rumor.

I am a little surprised the Sarkisian angle is not getting more play here. I agree that, if true, it appears Sark is just trying to get more money out of UW. The thing is, these rumors are not emanating out of Minnesota fans/boards/media but out of Washington's. Unlike the Tubby-Oregon stuff that was ginned up by Oregon fans, it is Husky fans who started and are keeping the Sarkisian-Minnesota rumors going.

Anyway, there hasn't been much of this type of quasi-"hard" rumormongering during our search so I was pretty excited to see the Sarkisian rumors.

That seems to be the case. If he's a serious candidate it would be because UW is abandoning Husky Stadium, which as a former Seattle resident would be as bad if not worse than leaving Memorial. Food for thought.
