Go Gophers!!

Bummer about the time. Pretty cool we're getting an ESPN game though.

There was no way this game was going to be at any other time. MSU-Notre Dame was scheduled at 2:30 weeks ago and the night games are scheduled months in advance.

It will be 9:00 AM in the morning for SJSU. I'll take it.

Tis' cool about it being on World Wide Leader in Sports as the alternative

could have been AggieVision though their announcers would have had a hard time staggering back from that dive bar, Shooters, in Appleton. Gotta love a bar with a sign in front that reads:

This reference is only funny to those of you who actually watched the game AND actually listened to those 2 local yahoos who broadcasted the game.

Word is ESPN outbid Aggievision for this one. Aggievision was able to put up a very high bid due to exteremely low overhead.

Opposite SJSU-Gophers at 11:00, BTN has Florida A&M-Ohio State and Western Michigan-Iowa.

The 2:30 ABC game is Purdue at Wisconsin. Also at 2:30 on BTN are Kent State-Penn State, Maine-Northwestern, and South Dakota State-Nebraska. As noted, NBC has Michigan State-Notre Dame at 2:30 as well.

Bingo. You always want to play the West Coast teams as early as possible.

Gophers are starting to get a little national pub too. Last year only 3 of 12 games were on the "ESPN family". The other 9 were on BTN.

This year we already have three games scheduled for ESPN or ABC and that's with 6 B1G games yet to be announced.

Personally I like watching games on BTN better, but there's little question which network catches more eyeballs, especially for recruits.

Hopefully Zach Zenner (RB for SDSU from Eagan) can put up some nice numbers against the Huskers. He went for 295 and 4 TD on saturday against UND. I know that UND's run defense is nothing to call home about, but is Nebraska's? If SDSU can run the ball decently I will feel confident that we will be able to run on them as well, resulting in a Gopher victory!!

Per sources, game is on ESPN2. this what i was told or read.

You may be the first to compare North Dakota and Nebraska football defense.

With the 11 AM start time, I will be there with a pocket watch on a chain, swinging it back and forth saying "SLEEP" to the SJSU sideline. Cal came in with some rust with an '09 11 AM kickoff, if I remember correctly. The Gophers were surprisingly in that game nearly to the end.

Actually Cal jumped out to a 14-0 lead and it looked like the blowout was on early. The fellas actually fought back to tie it. Not sure the start time had an effect on it really, but maybe they got sleepy after jumping out to the lead, I don't know.

i'll take it for the espn exposure. always good to be on national tv

UND sucks really really really really bad defensively. i would know. ive seen them live many times. there is zero relevance in any of those games

Actually, Cal jumped out to a 14-0 in their first two possessions. We were the ones that came out really flat. Hopefully we don't do the same against SJSU.

Actually that was the game I brought my dad (who started bringing me to games when I was around 5 or 6 and haven't stopped since) to in a wheel chair. It would be his only game at the new place and I went the day before to make sure I could get him to the correct tunnel to get him to the wheel chair area right by my seats. I was given all sorts of info., etc. and felt pretty good about the whole thing.

Then game day came and all good feelings left as the morons working had not the faintest clue what to do with us. The name I was given to make initial contact with was no where near the stadium and every younger worker wanted no part of us. Fast forward to two laps around the stadium in the underground tunnels before I told the kid leading us that we were now again on the opposite side (visitors). He was really confused and told us to wait where we were.

We happened to be right by the Away teams locker room. The Cal coach just gave his pregame speech and the room was rocking. Players were banging on the walls and the door. Screaming and hollering was really loud. We would have been trampled if the moron kid wouldn't have ditched us off to another person and away we went. As moron #2 opened the door to where he said was our destination, we found ourselves right back where we started the whole ordeal. Luckily an ex-student of mine was working security near by and recognized me. She got us to the magic door and our Spinal Tap moment was complete.

Point of the story was that the Cal team was not at all sleepy. They were ready for sure-I heard it first hand.

San Jose State gets a bye next weekend. They'll have plenty of time to prepare for the early start time.

As much as I hate 11 AM starts, I'm less inclined to complain about it thanks to aggievision.

San Jose Mercury News: Bye Week will be busy for San Jose State Football team

"This is a get-better week," coach Ron Caragher said Monday of the first of two byes on SJSU's schedule. "I need this football team to approach this week as an opportunity to improve, to hone in on fundamentals and to get after it and stay well-conditioned."

Caragher said bye weeks often carry the connotation of a time to rest and get healthy, but, two games into the season, the Spartans are in good shape on the injury front.

"Some people take a bye as a time to go back, heal up, get treatment. That's not our approach," Caragher said. "We're going to go out and hit the ground running tomorrow."

I love 11am starts. Breakfast at Al's or the tailgate, watch some football in the sunshine (hopefully), get home and bask in the glow of a victory while watching all the other great games of the day or have time to do all your errands and weekend projects. 2:30 starts are the absolute worst because they take over your whole day.

My first gopher football game will be at this game. 11 am is a good time, i'll be home by 4-5 ish and can watch night games on the big screen.

I dislike 11 a.m. starts because I am still sober at the beginning of the game.

I like the 2:30 games more than the 11:00 AM games but I am coming around on the 11:00 am games due to tailgating. 11 AM allows for a very early start with bloody marys and tailgate breakfast, plus more traditional tailgate grilling food after the game. I'm probably more likely to just head out after a 2:30 game as opposed to the double tailgate situation for an 11:00 game. All in all still prefer 2:30 but I can live with 11:00.

Good story TikiTied. I hope your Dad enjoyed the game after you guys got settled in. Let's hope SJSU will have a Spinal Tap moment before the game. Maybe someone will slip them some square sandwiches instead of triangle shaped (Tap reference).

I don't understand why they can't do a noon kick-off. seems to work pretty well for the NFL

Because they want to neatly organize their broadcast slots, and college games are longer than NFL games, so they need to space them out further. If the early games start at noon, then the afternoon games have to start at 3:30, and that would be uncomfortably close to getting those games done in time so they aren't impeding the start of the 7 pm game.
