Sam Maresh

There has been a lot of stuff said about this dude and in the paper

Nov. 6th Maresh is no Saint. The altercation and arrest in the paper where Royston tried to save his butt, then he mouthed off to the U cops (Maresh) more and would not shut up, that nearly got Royston in trouble while walking down the street with a bottle of Jag in hand is just one of the issues. Then puching another student at the Library another U student that was not looking for a fight or asking for one just basically got sucker punched by Maresh. Just a couple snap shot's about the dude that make you think humm... He might not be someone you want around.
Combine that with he did not want to go to class, or do any school work for that matter the first time around.
He may be a talented football player but sounds like this guy had a lot of growing up to do before coming back to a place like the U. He might be best served looking elsewhere and playing elsewhere a fresh start if you will.

time will tell, if past experience is an indicator:

I hope he can get his act together!!!

Turn the page. The Gophers need talented players. Sam fits that bill. Hopefully he has learned from all his experiences in that past few years. He deserves the chance to prove on and off the field that he can contribute to our football program.[/QUOTE]

That will be up to Coach Kill.

I've read some stuff about Beal on the internet. It said he's all hype. Not that I place too much credence on what random people on the internet say, but the internet said he's all hype.

+1. Coach Kill mentioned tonight the possible negative things that recruits and recruit parents see on the boards. Not just ours, all around the country. It only hurts our recruiting efforts.

Any family with a D1 kid should know what they are getting into when they venture into the realm of internet message boards. I promise you there were some fans very unhappy with how little Auburn won by. Stuff that almost all of us can't even imagine. Guys that look at Cam Newton and think he was a bust. So kids and parents should either ignore message boards altogether or be prepared to see how little some people think of their son or daughter. It is just the nature of things.

So you're saying he had a lot of fight! :cool02:

I confess to not following GopherHole closely for a couple years, maybe three. But is it not possible that this sort of behavior on Sam's part might be PTSD related? Open heart surgery is not routine elective outpatient surgery. A young man (kid) goes through a traumatic change in life, and afterwards exhibits inappropriate behavior. What was his history prior to the surgery? Was he always "an a$$hole" or is this something that manifested after surgery? Young people don't always act rationally in dealing with their problems, neither do adults. Is this a cut and dried "this guy always was and is an a$$hole" situation, or one where behavioral health intervention was / is warranted? People can change. Give the young man a chance. We gave Michael Vick a chance. I don't think Sam killed any dogs for fun.

Winona Phantom we salute you!

I say Hey Sam, time to redeem yourself and show everyone that you can be the guy on and off the field and make your family proud. I'm with you if you'll give yourself a chance.

I don't think he deserves anything. He had a chance and screwed that up. I'm not saying he shouldn't get a 2nd chance at MN or somewhere else, but to say he deserves a chance is ridiculous to me.
