Rumor: Dasher announcement tomorrow.

Hope he sits. Better for us.

That should about end this thread.

Actually i would prefer he would play. Albeit the game would be more difficult but, if we face them and win.........who cares? We beat a team w/o its best player at QB, but if we happen to lose? We look like a the 2-10 team everyone predicted at the beginning of the season. Pretty much a lose lose situation. Just my 2 cents

FWIW I believe we beat them with or w/o Dasher

If we beat MTSU, the media is going to say "Big deal, you beat a Sun Belt team." This will be the case whether Dasher plays or not. If Dasher doesn't play, the local media will add the extra smack.

If we lose to MTSU, the media is going to say "WHAT? YOU LOST TO A SUN BELT TEAM?!?!?!" whether or not Dasher plays.

But the W is what counts. No smack from the media will take away a W.

Aren't they favored? The biggest potential home win in school history is a game in which you are favored?

Probably, without knowing for sure, I can't imagine they've played many bcs conference schools at home.

No it's really not the biggest home game. We beat a Maryland team that was ranked that season and went 8 - 5. We lost to ranked Virginia team at home by 2, after they hit a game winning field goal. We've had competitive games with Louisville in the Titans stadium, back when they were actually decent.

I think the local press isn't used to covering us, so they really don't know. Too many "good ole' boys" in the media who are still caught up on Vanderbilt and trimmings from the Media in Knoxville, to talk about UT.

I guess, it's big in the fact that we were expecting to go 11-1, possibly undefeated. And I suppose MN, Troy, and G-Tech were the only real obstacles in the way.

What a loser's mentality you have!

You are worried about what you'll look like? It's not like the season stops after the first game.

A win is a win.

I wouldn't believe a word of the announcement coming......

Remember the time when Hayden Fox's Screaming Eagles faked their start QB's injury and then unleased him in the big game's final drive against the West Texas University Wranglers? I see MTSU pulling a similar stunt.

Except that's a TV show with no NCAA. There is no way that Head Coach Stockstill would throw away his career by pulling that crap.

I like how people are finally coming to their senses about this issue. There is no upside this game for the Gophers if Dasher were to play. Get the win, nothing more. Dasher out increases our chances of winning. Thus, Dasher out is a preferred option.

It doesn't matter if he plays or not. The ESPNU people will talk about him non-stop either way... not because of football, but because they'll want to talk about him for other reasons. It will be Greg Paulus all over again.

Sigh.

Absolutely. We will all be disappointed, pissed, give up, if we lose this game, even if we outplay them and get bad breaks and completely screwed. If we win, even if the refs blow an obvious call that hands us the win, and dasher and 3-4 of their other best players all can't play, we will still be at the least cautiously pleased. That's a big gap between those two. Dasher out is easily our preferred option.

We lost to ranked Virginia team at home by 2, after they hit a game winning field goal.

Virginia was not ranked when you played them in 2007.

We've had competitive games with Louisville in the Titans stadium, back when they were actually decent.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't call losing by 27 and 16 "competitive".

I don't exactly know what the NCAA is investigating regarding this story, but I doubt the problem is whether the loan shark gets paid back. I would think the issue is that Dasher, for some reason, is receiving money from a possibly demented octogenarian who claims to be a loan shark. Maybe this is normal practice in the South...wouldn't surprise me. My guess is that he'll probably play and we'll still win.

He said he doesn't want to ruin his opportunity. And, that he can pay him back later, but withdrew the deadline.

The NCAA should have no problem with that. Sure, the guy was involved with stealing and gambling but as long as his loan shark says he shouldn't have his opportunities ruined then I see no reason for him to not receive a suspension.

Too much of a distraction for the team?

Virginia was 9-3 and was ranked in 2007. that's the year they had chris long.

We'll know his fate today around 11:30a. It doesn't look good for Dasher-- they've reduced his reps in practice. It appears likely we'll face a QB who's never taken a d1a snap.

They weren't ranked when they beat you. A bad opening day loss to Wyoming set them back in the eyes of the pollsters They first cracked the polls two weeks later.

That 2007 Virginia team was not that good. In a weak ACC, they managed to pull out a bunch of games late, winning 5 of their games by 2 points or less, which I believe was some sort of NCAA record. Bad losses to Wyoming and NC State showed their overall mediocrity, despite a good record.

The fact of the matter Mr. Donnell is a former bookmaker. The meeting he says was by chance as he was feeding the squirrels at the VA. Dasher parked in a no parking zone, and Donnel warned him to move the car. Dasher stated that he was there to see Amber. From there Mr. Donnell would like you to beleive the discussion led to five 300 payments. Did Donnell truely "loan" the money because he was Dwight Dasher, starting QB. Or does he offer this service to anyone? The NCAA frowns on athletes dealing with Bookmakers even retired. The money is said to have been used to settle gambling debts, but that could be a smokescreen. There is no crime in playing poker, but solicitng funds from a bookmaker should be grounds to sit him down. And suprisingly now Mr. Donnell has forgiven the "loan", makes me even more suspicious that it was payment for some information rather than a loan. If Donnell recieved team information that would impact his bookmaking then the story makes a little more sense. If Dasher used to money to pay off gambling debts that is a non issue. The contact with Donnell a bookmaker and payments is the issue.

Second, the charge of theft from the teammate. Two checks, this theft iniated the investigation and seems to be burried in the reporting. Again, Dasher covers this with a story of writting void across the face. Its a cover up, by Dwight. And not a good one.

I personally hope he plays, we blister them. And just walkaway from the story.

c'mon guys.. it's not like he drove drunk, and then, tried to beat up a cop..
