Royce Charged

Let the inmates run the asylum? How desperate has the program become?

Give me a break, Royce had offers from nearly every team in the Big Ten. You take a risk on a kid with that kind of talent.

We waited months and months for two trespassing charges? What a joke. I'm sure every other student will agree with me when I say that hundreds of people could be charged with this every weekend on campus.

I get a kick out of the members here who call everyone who is new and disagrees a troll...they must be left wing looooonaticks who can't handle a real debate or have anything between their legs enough to have a real point.

LET ROYCE PLAY!

BINGO!!!

I'm sure Tubby knew what Royce was going to be charged with and realizes the charges are so minimal that he allowed him to practice.

In my opinion, this means one thing and one thing only:

C-L-O-S-U-R-E!!!

End of story, everybody moves on. Tubby and Co. likely knew this is the way things were heading.

Royce will be playing by the first week of February, I'm guessing anyway.

From a university and athletic department level, the damage has already been done.
Some will say (and have already posted) that the only reason he was charged at all is because he is a high-profile athlete; others will say that he "only" got misdemeanor charges because he is a high-profile athlete. It's now a no win situation for Coach Smith or Joel Maturi. There are issues with letting him stay and issues with letting him go. It's unfortunate.
On a personal level, I wish him well; he has 2 investigations under his belt in under 1 year of college. He needs a mentor (which I'm sure he has already), someone to help him identify and help him stay out of situations where his actions could potentially be called into question.

Royce may deserve the charge...now move on.

For all we know, Royce may have been observed leaving the dorm room in question. Not sure if Tubby will let him play or not. My feeling is that this happened two months, ago, he's been clean since and maintained good grades, so I would say 20 games is enough and let him play.

If every program kicked out a kid that had a misdemeanor in high school/college, you'd probably have a problem filling out rosters across the country.

Royce has one misdemeanor and no other issues. Keep your head buried in the sand. The problems are not only with one player. The problems have become systemic. This reflects poorly on the program and the university. It is becoming clear that winning is more important to Tubby than doing the right thing. Sad.

Hey Sam. You are not fooling anyone with your feigned concern for the Gopher program. You aren't a Gopher fan. That is clear. Go back to your Bucky board and trash us there. No need to pretend you're concerned about our program and pile on here.

Anyone who thinks Royce should be kicked off for a couple misdemeanors must either be new to division one sports or is completely living under a rock. My friend got kicked out of a dorm last year and went there last weekend to pick up a friend before a party. I never thought it was a big deal since he wasn't there long and didn't cause any problems, but I guess if he played basketball then he would deserve to be kicked out of school and thrown in prison, right?

And I believe that people who can't spell must be left-wing lunatics. It's spelled disciple, not 'Desciple' there buddy boy.

Btw, trespassing isn't really a crime. It's just frowned upon. Kind of like masturbating on an airplane.

IF winning is the most important thing to Tubby i think we would have seen Royce playing already

Looks like not enough to charge Royce with anything else, so we are going to got you this way. How many misdemeanors can one guy have before he is finally let go? While not a "big" crime, it is still a crime. Guess there goes any chance we see him this year or maybe ever...

No, possibly it is not a "crime" in the legal sense. I had a dust up with EmDub previously along these lines and he schooled me on the legality of a "crime". A petty misdemeanor is not a "crime".

Neither Mbakwe or Royce have played a minute of College Basketball under Tubby Smith. Royce sat out 20 games before he was even allowed back at practice. It seems you are the one with your head in the sand.

hey accccccomlice......why don't you google the name and you will find out exactly what I am spelling. This is a G-rated board so I would expect you to have a little more class in your ANALogies...............

Interesting, i will look at it some more. So u can be charged with a misdemeanor, i mean petty misdemeanor, but yet that is not a "crime" in the legal sense?

Yeah, it's not like he pushed his girlfriend down the stairs and then stole her shoes. If he did that, then I would agree that he should be kicked off the team.

Yup. I was surprised too. The MOA "event" was a petty misdemeanor and NOT a crime.

Kudos to EmDub for pointing out that fact in a December thread.

Not sure what level of misdemeanor this laptop/dorm charge will be. In any case, what a joke.

Myron tweets:

"Correction: Royce White has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor trespassing."

"Court documents: White entered a dorm room "uninvited" and told female occupant: "Hey, I'm Royce. Do you know who I am?""

I think the fact that the investigation was so long and he wasn't charged with worth shows that the UMPD didn't have any other options. If he was slapped with a trespassing charge the week after the incident, it would be easier to argue that he got off because of his high profile status.

Now it is not a crime? Surely Royce was the party wronged in all of this. A scholarship is not enough. Royce desrves an award and a settlement for having been singled out unfairly. LOL

Let this Kid Play!

For those folks on here who want him off the team for his lack of perfection, please look yourself in the mirror before you spout off. Remember the next time you are speeding on 494 and don't get caught, yor when you jwalk across hennepin Ave, or when you get a speeding ticket, or when you say something so stupid on this website, ou are actually comitting a more serious offense than what RW is charged with! What a waste of money, resources, and time. This may have cost the Big Ten Hundreds of Thousands of dollars if they miss the NCAA tournament.

His attitide and some of his deeds certainly don't thrill me. But give the kid the benefit of the doubt and LET ROYCE PLAY
Thanks for reminding me of a point I originally brought up months ago.

How many times was White out shoplifting before he got caught the first time? We are talking about a crime where only one in 20 or even 50 get caught. I suppose the Mall thing could have been Royce's first time, but if could have been his 50th too.

BTW ... It was reported a couple years ago that two Twin's coaches were warned about j-walking as they left the dome after a night game. What's with those Twins?
