Interesting that Fiesta reps would be there...thought as CFP semi final game this year that its match up would be determined by final CFP rankings? No?

Ya the Fiesta bowl thing doesn't really make sense

Gophs are still on the Fiesta radar. #Beat Bucky! #Beat the Buckeyes!

This is annoying.

Yeah, if the mods could look into it and advise us. I looks like the new forum automatically embeds the links itself, but that is breaking anyone who copies the embed stuff from twitter manually.

Maybe the semi-finals get to have some say in which teams go to them out of the top 4? IDK.

I think it probably has more to do with coming to campus and meeting the people in the athletic department with whom they will be working if we end up in their bowl. There will be a ton of work to do in a relatively short time, so early efforts to do introductions and establish connections will be important. Plus, bowl reps love their free travel junkets and don't want to be left out of all the wining and dining just because they are hosting a semifinal.

The rankings are entirely determined by the independent selection committee.

I would guess one of two things: they're looking at the Minn fan base to gauge for future years, and/or these guys all just go as a pack on these things, get each other's feeling, etc.

I am about 90 pct positive if we beat Wisconsin we go to the Rose Bowl and if we lose to Wisconsin we go to the Outback Bowl. I just hope Gopher fans will still be happy to go to the Outback if we lose, because it is still a very good bowl game. If we go to the Rose Bowl though, this fan base will go absolutely crazy!

Outback vs Auburn, 10 wins, 7 Big Ten wins.

If a genie told you this before the season, you'd be doing backflips in the street.

That's true, but hopes are at an all time high and the stakes have been raised substantially. We have never been this close to the Rose Bowl in nearly 60 years. I know we were in the same type of situation a few years ago where if we beat Wisconsin we would go to the Rose Bowl, but this team is substantially better and this is a very legitimate, almost coin flip if we go or not!

I would be pretty surprised at the Outback Bowl. With a loss to wisconsin, we still have a pretty good shot at the Orange, and if not that then probably the Citrus. Falling below the Citrus would require at least PSU to jump us, which is definitely possible but wouldn't make much sense.

The Orange will probably go to the SEC this year. So far in non-semi years, the Big Ten have gotten it twice and the SEC only once. Notre Dame is also on the table as an option.

Actually, scratch what I said about the Orange. That will most likely be Alabama if things shake out as they should. And in that case, we should be going to the Citrus with PSU going to the Outback if the world is fair.

Well - that may be true, but remember we went to the Citrus Bowl recently, and have never been to the Outback. The Orange Bowl is also still in play -- should be a Jan. 1st bowl game no matter what!!

We can't go to the Citrus. We were already there in 2014.

I think it has to be the Outback, if we don't make it to a NY6 bowl.

Not impossible, but I don't think the Big Ten gets the Orange again this year. We'd have already reached our limit of three (in non-semi years) over 2014-2026.

Penn State was in the Citrus Bowl last year. Not sure how that would affects things

Correct - and no back-to-back appearances for Big Ten bowl games (except the Rose) is explicitly in the contract, which means the Citrus cannot pick Penn St. They can most definitely pick us, despite what Know-Nothing said earlier.

Bowl representative showing up in the past probably mattered.
These days I think they are just people who find an excuse to travel to games to say they saw the team in person.
It's part of their self-created job.

CFP committee and then the Big Ten decide where teams will go.

Iowa is in quite a pickle. They were in Outback last year so they can't go 2 years in a row and they were in the Gator back in 2014 and the Gator can't take a team twice during the agreement. So if Iowa doesn't get picked for Holiday, they could fall to Pinstripe (which they were at in 2017) or Redbox.

The Citrus Bowl can bring back Minnesota by excising a one time exemption.
A Citrus Bowl official stated that Minnesota would be very attractive if they should become available.
Two loss Big Ten teams do not end up at the Outback Bowl.

Iowa would probably go if it is not Wisconsin for Citrus. Other B1G bowls impact who goes where for the same reasons. Also, if B1G team is picked for Orange, ACC would then get Citrus bowl invite in place of B1G.

I would think Michigan would go to the Citrus ahead of Iowa.
