ROMAN VOSS TO MINNESOTA!

I take it Mr. Voss did not have a great hoops tourney.

Is there not an All Things News about Gopher football commits thread, so people don't have to think this thread being bumped means he's decommitting?

I thought you were going to say you were humiliated by Dave Trost of GVLC fame.
No, but one time I brought Nelson Johnson to a weekly pick up game with friends. It was pretty funny…and he went along with it…but no one could guard him. He was 6’11”. We changed the rules and made him stay out of the lane. That made it a little better.

Didn’t you bump the thread by commenting on this?

Mine was playing against Rochester JMs Longar Longar and Mike Kinsella as a 6'1" post. Spoiler...didn't end well
That team was insane. 2 7 footers on the same team and it was wasted. Iirc, they didnt even sniff state tournament that yr. Suspect guard play and a bad coach.

Similarly, I was a 6-2 post in the Pacesetter summer tournament and was playing a very tough 6-6 center from STMA. Did fine until he dunked on me at the buzzer to win it by 2. Found out yrs later that the kid was Matt Spaeth.

I sure hope they play Voss at wildcat as well as te. He has great running ability and always would have the threat of a pass with his qb experience. He’s too good not to play right away.

Trost was a good player. Part of a great 1980-81 Augsburg team. Ronnie Henderson, Greg Boone, etc.

My on-court embarrassments usually took place at the Salvation Army Gym down on West 7th in St. Paul. I had a couple of college buddies who played pro ball in Europe and they would drag me down there in case there was an "odd" number of players that my presence would "even." First off, I am a really crappy basketball player (I may not be big, but I am slow) so I had no business being on the court with any of these guys. I got taken to school by a couple of Gophers (I think it was Darryl Mitchell for one) and a few all-MIAC guys. My main value on offense was to stand on the perimeter and make the guy guarding me think I could shoot (worked for a few minutes each game).

Biggest embarrassment was playing on the same team with Chris Engler after he had been playing pro ball for a while. Threw him a bounce pass that he had to stretch a bit for. He shot me a look and said "The big guy wants it up here!" That said, Engler is a great guy and helped me realize how good even the bench guys are in the pros. Warming up, he was standing at the 3-point line draining shot after shot.
