His play can't get any worse?

Can it?

Waste of talent. This coaching staff does not know how to develop players period.

No. His minutes need to be cut. Chip and Austin are playing MUCH better.

That attempted lob pass to Mav and the lazy pass which led to the McCamey layup pretty much sums it up

He just can't be on the floor at this point. He doesn't freakin do anything. It's not that he's really hurting us that much, he just does absolutely nothing.

So you missed the steal that led to a run-out layup 2 minutes ago?

But hey...he's the best athlete in the B10....whatever that's supposed to mean.....

Rodney Williams can jump high. That's what he is good at. He has never been a very good basketball player. There is more to "talent" than simply being able to jump high. Rodney is an And 1 mixtape. Those of you expecting him to suddenly be more than that aren't connected with reality.

although he can show flashes of brilliance, Rodney shows no warrior mentality most of the time... he seems to be just going through the motions ... Rodney, despite all the NBA hype and natural talent, should NOT be on the court right now--until he comes out to battle (and I am normally not negative like this)

flashes of brilliance? what dunk on sportscenter? i cant remember one good game besides WKU. I hope he is still a projected lottery pick so he leaves and takes the pay check. he sucks and everyone sees it except tubby i guess

Rodney is more of a liability than an asset. If Nolan is really done for the season, we're definitely a bubble team.

Who else should Tubby play? If nothing else, he gives us some help on the offensive boards and a nice asset on the fast breaks.

No, but you said he does absolutely nothing, and I gave you an example of him doing something good.

Rodney had about three positive plays tonight, including the ugly three ball.

Rodney had about twelve negative plays tonight in all shapes and sizes.

Kid is one of the worst fundamentally sound players I've ever seen.

He's a guard. He needs to be able to shoot and handle the ball. Or at least one. It isn't just that he doesn't do those things, it's that he's absolutely pathetic at them.

Rodney is a guard?!?! that's news to me...

We should just line up Rodney from the 30 feet away, straight on...He might be able to bank in a few more threes...lol...If the rims and backboards could emote and talk, they would be cringing and crying at the sight of #33 pulling up to shoot.

In Webster's under "stone hands" there's a photo of Rodney's hands.

In his last few games Rodney is also about 0-4 on dunks. Normally when a player suffers a shooting slump, coaches urge the player to "go to the basket." With Rodney, nothing works.

Its time for him to sit...Been saying that since the Purdue game. He kills us in every phase.

We here so much about how he is still pretty raw and when he develops he will be really good. I think the question is, is this development actually going to happen?

I thought rodney was actually playing decent until the second half. He was aggressive the first half, just didn't get the roll. Second half shattered his confidence, not looking good for the rest of the season for him

Absolutely true. When he was signed out of high school I said I hated his jump shot and he was basically a one trick pony. It makes no sense to recruit a small forward that can't shoot.

So you take Rodney out, who do you put in? Hollins already started tonight so that leaves Iverson (who is getting trashed on another thread), Chip (who can take it to the rim but plays no defense and is not under control), or Mav (who is way over his head and should transfer to a DII school at the end of the season)?
Maybe Tubby has a walkon hidden on the bench that can come in and run the show...

Devoe is a loser and quitter!!!!!!!!!!

You put Chip in.

Chip
Hollins
Hoff
Trevor

Let Hoff bring the ball up if Chip has trouble. It's simple.

People seem to love Chip (and I really like his potential as well), but right now his defense is a problem, naturally, and a lot of guys are getting looks off him. But that being said, you can just see it, when Rodney touches the ball, you can almost see the smoke coming out of his ears cause he is thinking WAY too hard out there. His lack of confidence is killing his game, and I know many will chuckle and say "What game?", but yes, Rodney has played far better offensively in the past than he is right now. I'd be a proponent of letting Rodney take a step back and come off the bench.

By no means though, is it really "simple". You have one PG on the roster and he's a freshman who you definitely can't trust. And your other option is another freshman who you can't trust either really. There's no good solution to losing your top two PGs, there just isn't. You just hope they can grind it out by playing defense (main reason Rodney is still playing over Chip IMO) and get a few wins to close the year.

+1. Finally, some decent insight on this thread.

I watched Chip the whole night on defense for that reason. He may not get the principles of the ball line perfectly but he's playing hard. I don't see these massive defensive breakdowns by him- not last night anyway. He should be playing 30 minutes. Not Rodney. Rodney is a net deficit on the floor right now.

This offensive scheme is worse than horrible without Nolen. Without guys like Chip that can create, the opposition can neuter our big men in a hurry. I see Tubby this morning complaining that we didn't get the ball to Mbakwe more. Pretty hard to do that when the defense has your offense operating in the realm of the center court log for half of the possession.

I agree Chip has the athleticm to be a good defender he just needs to play and learn from his mistakes. He is essential on the offensive end. He will not miss that many layups on a regular basis.

Make Rodney come off the bench and be aggressive. Drive into the lane, jump stop, shoot an 8 footer just over the rim. If he did this with confidence very few big ten players could defend it.
