Rockwall, TX quarterback Jacob Clark has committed to the Gophers over offers from California, Iowa, Purdue, TCU, Vanderbilt and others. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound quarterback completed 62 percent of his passes for 2,937 yards, 29 touchdowns and ten interceptions in 2017. Clark’s commitment drives the Gophers to No. 24 nationally in recruiting rankings for 2019, according to 24/7 Sports.
Clark is more of a pocket passer who will stand into pressure and deliver passes to different levels of the field. Clark was tested vertically and displayed touch throwing deep down the field. This is a shift from quarterbacks the coaching staff have shown interest in during past classes. He doesn’t feature as much dual-threat ability in his skill-set, but has been tested more as a passer. The running threat isn’t featured nearly as much and it’s unclear how well Clark can move when asked to run out of RPO.
Clark is more of a pro-style quarterback and doesn’t move outside the pocket much to extend plays. He occasionally adjusted to feel pressure and drove the ball up the field. However, he mostly thrived in a clean pocket where he was able to drive passes to receivers. Clark has the overall arm talent to make throws at all three levels and the coaches have a player they can attempt to develop in 2019. It will be interesting to see Clark play another year of high school football and watch how the camp circuit has helped him improve. He joins Eden Prairie, Minn. commit Cole Kramer as the second quarterback to join the Gophers in the 2019 class.
