NO JOY IN DINKYTOWN, MINN. -- We're only 33 days away from the Gophers' Nov. 13 season opener vs. Kansas City at Williams Arena. Two days later, the Gophers figure to get their first test of the season when they host Louisiana-Monroe, Road to Selection Sunday's preseason favorite to win the Sun Belt Conference. Will college basketball's 2015-16 opening weekend be the start of something special and unexpected for the young and inexperienced Gophers?

Well, our crystal ball doesn't foresee a NCAA Tournament appearance in the Gophers' immediate future -- no surprise there with their mostly new roster -- but it should be a banner season for the B1G Conference, nonetheless. RTSS sees 7 B1G teams hearing their names called on Selection Sunday, and it wouldn't be a stretch to hear an eighth. The B1G and ACC figure to be the nation's top conferences, making the annual ACC/B1G Challenge in early December all the more enticing. Those two conferences headline our first 2015-16 Field of 68 projection with 7 bids apiece.

Last season's preseason projection was a rough one for RTSS, as only 38 of our 68 projected NCAA squads ended up making the tourney field. Usually we're in the ballpark of 42-44 correct picks. Take a look at the attached link if you're interested in how last year's preseason projection looked.

How about Gophers to Des Moines?

Just got tickets to the 1st/2nd rounds in Des Moines (Wells Fargo Arena). Would be a nice year for Gophers to surprise the heck out of us. ... fans could make a nice & easy trip down I-35. Much stranger things have happened in college basketball?

Dare to dream.
