Rick on Richard at Minn "it's a perfect place for him to become something special"

per Shooter:

Richard, who has a six-year contract worth $1.2 million annually, was associate head coach at Louisville two seasons ago.

"He knows my athletic director very well," his dad said. "But he's his own man and wants to blaze his own trail, and he is thoroughly enthralled with Minnesota. He loves the people. He loves the university. He thinks it's a very special place with special people.

"To me, it's a perfect place to raise my grandchildren, it's a perfect place for him to become something special like Bo Ryan has become at Wisconsin. That was my advice to him -- become a Billy Donovan at Florida, a Bo Ryan at Wisconsin, a Tom Izzo at Michigan State. Build something very special at Minnesota and build longevity.

"My feeling, personally, is why, good or bad, follow your dad? Why leave a place that can be something special?"

Go Gophers!!

As always, Rick is full of crap. He forgot to tell his son that Minnesota nice lasts only a few seasons????

Or in the case of some GopherHolers, all it takes is three consecutive close losses in the B1G for GH "nice" to kick in!!!

Or even 3 consecutive possessions in a single game!!!

It's his life mission to prowl the internet in defense of Tubby, even when Tubby isn't being attacked.

The Real Truth came here because of his love of Tubby. He's no gopher fan. He was implying that we'll turn on Richard after a couple of years just like we turned on Tubby. Frankly I'm just as tired of his shtick as I am people continually bringing up Tubby/Brewster.

Agreed. And if Pitino suddenly gets lazy and stops trying, we probably will turn on him. Luckily I don't see that happening though.

First and foremost, Minnesotans love those who work hard. Richard is this. Tubby was this when he first came to Minnesota, then after a couple seasons he mailed it in...and that's when the fans started turning on him. If Richard continues to work hard AND build the program, doesn't complain about it, doesn't interview for other jobs or look around, the fans will love him. Tubby failed to do these things. But TRT knows that.

Glad Pitino is here and hope he brings the program to another level.

That said, I put these comments under the category of, "what else is he supposed to say?"

Beat Bucky.

Glad someone said this. Great guy, but coaches are sales people and they say what they need to. That having been said, he appears to have more enthusiasm than Tubby ever had. Could be a disposition issue, but maybe more. I like his genuine enthusiasm. I hope he has the perseverance to hang in when he discovers it will be a lot easier to win consistently in the SEC than the B1G.

This. Rick always says the 'right thing' and so does Richard. That's fine. There's nothing wrong with that. But we simply must take comments like these for what they're worth, which isn't much.
