Richard Pitino and Autism Speaks - he joins 80+ coaches to raise awareness

I just received this press release, thought I'd share with you why Richard Pitino and many others will be wearing a pin in support of raising awareness for Autism....


This Saturday, Richard Pitino is joining more than 80 college basketball coaches to raise autism awareness in support of Towson University men's basketball coach Pat Skerry and Marshall University coach Tom Herrion.

Coach Skerry's 4-year-old son Owen has autism and is the inspiration behind this push for college basketball to promote autism awareness. Coach Harrion also has a child with autism. The two coaches, who are friends, have begun a campaign to get college basketball's top coaches to wear an Autism Speaks puzzle piece pin during their televised games on Feb. 1.

In addition to Richard Pitino, coaches who have signed on to wear the pin are Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Kansas’ Bill Self, Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim, Arizona’s Sean Miller, and Louisville’s Rick Pitino.

In fact, every major game on Saturday will feature coaches wearing the Autism Speaks puzzle piece pin to raise awareness of autism – a disorder that now affects 1 in 88 children in the U.S.

My nephew has Asperger's Syndrome, which is on the high functioning Autism spectrum. Anything that raises awareness of Autism is good.
