Rich Rod is gone

I think that the biggest take away from this silly season is that programs are viewed far differently by coaches than they have been before. When Miami, Florida, and presumably, Michigan all have openings in one year and none of the 'hot' head coaches move*, something is different. The biggest name coach that moved went to Maryland of all places.

*This is assuming that the reports that Harbough is not interested in Mich are true.

I keep hearing Harbough will be the next 49ers coach. This is going to get interesting. Nothing would make me happier than a Michigan hiring a second tier coach just like they did with Coach Bo.;)

Les Miles was the "Michigan Man" that they seemed to want three years ago, but I have not seen any talk about him this time around. Is there any chance that Michigan tries to go after him again?

Also, I was just reading on ESPN how Rodriguez would be a good fit at Pitt. That would be fun to see considering Pitt and West Virginia are big rivals and the West Virginia folks are already pretty sore about Rodriguez leaving them for Michigan. It also would be a very fortunate bounceback for both Rodriguez and Pitt.

To me, it makes zero sense to install a guy whom you know is going to have growing pains, only to fire him after 3 years when he was just getting the ball rolling. Michigan will wish it had kept DickRod after spending the next 3 years adjusting to the new coach.

I don't agree with this part of your statement at all. The Michigan Men were embarrassed by DickRod BEFORE the infamous sports banquet, which I think put him in the coffin. (Actually, a significant minority were embarrassed before that incident, due to the NCAA charges, the buyout, and the lying.) The Gator Bowl just pounded the nails in deeper. As you guys should know, when the team's fans start seeing the coach as a cartoon, he has lost all credibility. If they get a solid hire (like Kill, for example) who knows football and can put a few speeches together without putting his foot in his mouth, the Michigan Men will back the guy.

I'm not saying it will happen but Rittenberg floated Patterson as a possible candidate. For arguments sake, if it did happen, I think I would honestly be sick to my stomach knowing we danced with him four years ago and chose to go with Brew instead. That could be the type of thing that could come back and haunt the U for a long, long time...especially if he was able to turn them back around.

Good to see that our search taught everyone here not to believe unconfirmed media reports.

In all fairness I wouldn't necessarily say that we chose Brewster over Patterson. By most accounts Patterson told the U no thanks when they called. Brewster was hired subsequent to Patterson saying no, even if he called back to express interest after an agreement was already made with Brewster.

Nor to believe any rumors anywhere. Opinions beget rumors, rumors beget lots of foolish comments, foolish comments beget lots of crow being eaten, lots of crow being eaten begets lots of beer being drunk, lots of beer being drunk begets new rumors, etc etc etc, ad nauseum. Screw it, I skip all of the BS and just drink beer.

Go Gophers!!!!!!

Mullen would be a great hire for Michigan

Mullen signed a huge (for them) contract with Mississippi State, $2.65 mil for the next four years. I'm guessing Michigan will go with Hoke, or one other big non-AQ guys (Petersen, Patterson).

Hire the guy who beat you this year - as we did.

how do I find my post from two years ago when I said he would be fired after two or three years?
