Reusse: The traffic to Williams Arena is lousy, and so is the level of Gophers competition inside it

The various agencies involved in transforming University Avenue from Interstate 35W to Oak Street in Minneapolis appeared on Saturday morning to have completed construction. It was a months-long project through the core of the U campus and, presumably, the planners’ goal has been achieved.

That goal would be the reduction of vehicle lanes from three to two headed to Williams Arena, thus turning the traffic jams for popular events at the mighty old Barn from tedious to epic.

This was not a problem for Game 2 of Niko Medved’s coaching tenure with the Gophers men’s basketball team, since game time was 11 a.m. and the opponents were the Alcorn State Braves. This historically Black college is located in Lorman, a town of 2,300 in southeast Mississippi — where, one suspects, the city and college leaders do not spend heavily to worsen traffic jams.

Go Gophers!!

Was 2 games the over or under for Reusse to start b****ing about something?
Negative 2 (counting the preseason games) because im sure he was bitching about those too. I've pretty much stopped caring about what he thinks. New season, new era, new team basically and a new offensive scheme. Niko knows what he is doing. I'm damn excited about this team. Yes, it was Alcorn State, but we beat them in a way that good teams beat them. Let's GG!!

Old man yells “get off my lawn!”

The reconfiguration of those streets has been a talking point for sure. Reusse seems to have run out of things to write about when it comes to sports, so he could--if he wanted to--write an intellectually curious column about the traffic situation. I'll bet his editors would allow that. But he's just too damn lazy.

There are other ways to get to the games, even by car, without fighting the traffic on University. You just have to be a little creative. We get into and out of the games just fine, and we park only two blocks away.

Go Gophers!!
Lorman is located in Southwest Mississippi, not Southeast Mississippi.

Love it. Patrick was silent for 4 years of Ben and now begins to appear.
