For once I agree with Reusse on something. Way it should be too, imo. Football has to be the true BMOC (big man on campus) once again like it was for decades and decades in the past, which also happened to be some of our most consistently successful decades. I believe there is a degree of correlation between the level of administrative and overall university population support and a program's long term success on the gridiron. Don't get me wrong, I still love the basketball and hockey programs and they will get the support they require, but football needs to be treated and always supported like the #1 son.

In my book, that is not all bad.

I can envision Jerry Kill eventually becoming the AD after his football coaching is done.

The success of the football program impacts all other Gopher sport programs & the University itself.

Some of us have been waiting for over forty years to see a real turn around of Gopher Football.

As I posted on another thread, it doesn't have to be an either-or situation. Maturi was criticized for giving too much attention to the non-revenue sports. Teague came in (apparently) to pay more attention to the major revenue sports, but he managed to tick off the non-rev sports in the process.

I still think an AD can treat all of the sports fairly. The key is having clear and open communication with all sports. The non-rev coaches aren't stupid - they know that the U needs the major sports to generate revenue - they just don't want to be treated like second-class citizens.

If Maturi went too far in one direction, and Teague apparently went too far in the other direction, then the U has to find someone who can split the difference.

The new AD won't have yo fight that battle because the culture is changing we gave at President who gets the importance of the revenue spirits. I really don't disagree with the sentiment of your post, but this rowing facility needs to stop coming up. It's the equivalent of criticizing someone for fixing one of the kitchen cabinet doors before they add a second story to their house.

From what Reusse wrote and Mike Max stated on WCCO last night, Kill may have not cared for Teague either. Hell one donor was quoted as saying he will likely give more now that Teague is gone.

No guarantees but given the fact that most are men it is not a poor assumption to make.

Go complain the the headline writers at the Minneapolis Tribune if you have an issue with them using the term he. Now that we have clarified that, please feel free to continue your somewhat odd gender neutral language crusade.
