Paraphrased:
Dave Mona wrong guy to be on the inside of this hire because he thinks Gopher Football is relevant because that's how he feels. Only him and the other 60 year olds in maroon sweaters.
Went on to say, if top targets saying no, take Leach if he's saying he wants it. Sumlin's attraction is his offense, Leach is the one who perfected it. Craig James' kid was spoiled and it was about playing time. James had a big platform to tell his story, wants to hear Leach's side.
Best take:
Mike Leach is the only guy left who can make Gopher Football relevant to the few who are still interested.
My Take:
I didn't have Leach on my radar and didn't want him until today. If you aren't willing to give a coordinator like Gus Malzahn a shot and Mullen, Hoke, Calhoun, Belotti, or a surprise won't take the job, then roll the dice.
Sumlin might fly, but wouldn't expect a lot of excitement. Trestman might hold the season ticket base and get a chance, but doesn't regain any momentum for the program.
Jagodinzski or some stretch spells trouble for TCF and Gopher Football. Mike Leach behaving and winning here is a smaller risk than rolling with a Jagz or even Trestman, probably less a risk than Sumlin. I don't see a lot of room for error this time. TCF is one more poor coaching regime away from being a poor investment for anyone other than the 50,000-100,000 hardcore fans who are getting older and smaller by the year.
