Reusse: Gophers don't always play well with others

I'll get mine out of the way now...

Reusse is a fat, steaming pile who seems to get a lot of satisfaction out of messing with Brewster and the Gopher football program. With that said, the players know what they need to do to keep these stories from popping up: stay the eff out of trouble.

I'm putting the over for posts on this thread at 145.

Not even really worth a comment. It's so predictable that it's laughable.

I got a number of underage drinking tickets in college and was in plenty of stupid skirmishes. I'd love to compare the numbers as far as incidents with football players at schools nationwide, and I would bet that we are far, far below the national average.

The best part about this article is that the author has a notorious drinking problem and has multiple DUIs. Pure class.

The football team is a cross-section of the U. Are there really people out there that think kids should be kicked out of school or off the team for drinking underage or getting in a fight? Welcome to college in America.

Tough to dispute anything in that column. I guess these are the problems you get when the recruiting starts to improve.

I too have gotten several underage consumption citations and have been in several idiotic fights (but no DUIs, somehow), so I'm inclined to agree on the whole Tinsley situation. But I've never fought with or otherwise resisted the PO-lice. When they bust the taser out on you, and three times at that, you're in a state beyond anything I ever reached.

Overall, you're right, though. Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill. Some of this stuff is just going to happen in collegiate football programs. Hopefully Brewster is being proactive in addressing these issues and doing everything possible to avoid future incidents. I feel like we're on the verge of turning a corner in this program, but nothing will slam the anchors on our potential like a spate of suspensions or arrests.

Let's not confuse incidents. The taser thing was Whaley last year. Tinsley never resisted other than running. They never noted he was uncooperative once they found him.

That's why I said I agree on the whole Tinsley situation.

Totally disagree here. With the second part that is. I, for once, don't really argue Reusse on this article, though it was mighty predictable. He didn't really say anything that wasn't true there.

But on the point of improved recruiting bringing more problems, I completely disagree. Not to once again turn this into a Mason-Brewster thing, but Mason brought in more than a couple recruits who were "questionable" at best, and they had their issues. The only reason people seem to be noticing all of a sudden is because these recruits are more highly touted and well known, so people care more.

I think we can all agree that poor judgement was used by any players who may have been involved in this mess, and it stinks that it will now distract from the game itself (at least for the media). I do think it's fair to report on the situation, as these players are high profile and get great praise when they succeed, just as they are also subject to mass criticism for shortcomings, both on and off the field; it just goes with the territory. It does bug me to know how much Reusse and the KFAN crowd will be delighted to gab and write about this story.

I wish I could quantify how much they suck, but I haven't come up with anything big enough to compare there level of suck to.

Fat Pat just got another email from me letting him know how overweight and pathetic he is.

That reminds me, there is one thing that sucks as much as the badgers. Thank you sonny for reminding me.

Yea, students get minors and do stupid crap all the time. But guess what, those students aren't living luxuriously getting EVERYTHING and there mother paid for by the university. Normal students who are actually busting there asses off academically which is the purpose of the university in the first place do not get even remotely close to the treatment these kids get to play a sport.

So Reusse should just rail into them for all I care. For real. I don't care if it's a Minnesota athlete or a Wisconsin athlete. They deserve every little piece of punishment they get for being idiots. If your representing the face of the university, you better mind your p's and q's.

Iowa fans, serious question here, does Ferentz get killed in the media in IC for the troubles of his players like Brew does??

I am not going to click on the article, but certainly some football players' actions would get a negative reaction anywhere. I cannot blame Reusse for writing parts of the article. Whether he goes too far with it, I'll let others who read it judge.

And seriously, the Badgers epitomize everything wrong with the world.

if the football players at augsburg are anything like their wrestlers, they deserve to get their ass's kicked more then anyone in the world.

What exactly is Reusse's point here? That we have some young men on the football team who occasionally make bad choices? Well, duh. It happens everywhere. It just happens to get buried in one-trick pony towns like Madison and Columbus. The microscope is on the team in those places, but regarding their on-field play, not off-field conduct.

Reusse seems to be only interested in playing 'gotcha' with the Gopher football team. When was the last time this guy actually wrote something complimentary about the program?

I am not going to read Reusse's article, but if it is about the recent incident covered in the Daily, then it is beyond pathetic (which is normal for Reusse).

Before the reported incident, when was the last time their was ANYTHING with a Gopher football player? The last incident I remember was the Willie VanDeSteeg incident which occurred near his hometown.

The number of incidents involving Gopher players has been very small compared to what I've read about other programs.

When there are 80 kids on scholarship and 100 or so in a program, it is unrealistic to expect to never have any incidents.

I would not expect an article praising the behavior of kids under Brewster to date, but I would expect it to at least be mentioned that his player have been well behaved by comparison when writing a negative article.

The cops just don't let people go, I think he is overblowing the Tinsley thing. The Whaley thing is troublesome, that's some dangerous behavior. I am for second chances, and I hope he figures it out. The leash has to be VERY short for him.

Reusse is about 5 pounds away from having to ride in a rascal instead of walking. I am so sick of his drivel. I am not just speaking on this article, but every other article. Does he even try anymore?

Classy

I guarantee that if anyone here talked to one of those drunken excuse for civilians that are the Augsburg wrestlers they would also want to round up a posse and take them down too. Trust me they are the biggest jerks in the world.

Since June 1st, the guy has written 2 articles on the Gophers:
-Beautiful stadium means no more excuses for losing
-Today’s “Don’t Play Nice” article

I admit that I haven’t read it and won’t even bother giving the article a website hit. It’s the same constant dribble from the man. You can count on 6:00 showing up on a clock twice a day and Reusse to be there when it’s time to put out a negative story regarding the University of Minnesota.

Problem is that a chunk of people in this town LOVE IT. They love the negativity & “savagery” that some provide. Nothing will change them.

Send a letter to the Star Tribune editor!

I thought about this on Sunday when Reusse wrote absolutely ZERO about the Northwestern win. I thought to myself, "I bet if we had lost, Reusse would have had an "article" ripping the Gophers." If we can inundate the Strib editorial staff with letters complaining about Reusse's apparent bias against the Gophers, maybe someone will take notice.

I love reading the paper every morning and have for years-and-years, but if this anti-Gopers bias continues, I will be cancelling my subscription. No wonder they are a failing business.

I was wondering what it would take for Fat Pat to write something about the Gopher Football Team this fall. Now I know!

Yeah, he couldn't regurgitate his non-conference creampuff article he used for 10 consecutive years.
